Single player only is a plus, not a problem.

GTAV has a ton of shit in game trying to force you online. Stuff like businesses you could only buy online advertised in game.

[–] Natanox@discuss.tchncs.de 15 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

You missed that onr being a multi line statement. The issue is the paywall in a Singleplayer game. Basically just another 20€ day 1 DLC.

[–] panda_abyss@lemmy.ca -4 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

Okay, but if I look at literally any game on Steam or PS store every single game has “Standard Edition” “Deluxe” “Full on Simp” options.

“It’s cool if they’re shitty because everyone else is shitty”

Is that really your point? Fucking do not buy this shit game by these shit people

[–] panda_abyss@lemmy.ca 2 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

No, my point is everyone is making a huge stink about GTA6 as if Rockstar are dragging the industry into the shit, but it is all the same shit as every other game on the market.

Was anyone actually expecting anything different?

There is a lot of copium being huffed that someday a publisher will do the Biggest Game Ever in a fair way finally, and show the greedy hogs that it can be done and be profitable.

The tanks are low and the traps are full. You’ve already been captured and you are in a prison, and to some degree it’s of our own collective making.

BG3 does a pretty good job here. Big release, the upsells were all art books and stuff, with a few callback items you get as a premium.

But I’m not surprised Rockstar, after milking GTA5 online for a decade, are not the champions of consumer equity.

[–] Kolanaki@pawb.social 3 points 3 weeks ago* (last edited 3 weeks ago)

Rockstar has been shitty to consumers ever eince they were aquired by TakeTwo Interactive. TakeTwo is right up there with EA, Epic, and Ubisoft, competing for the least consumer friendly game company.

Wait, this is about GTA6? 30 fps for the biggest release of 2026?

[–] Natanox@discuss.tchncs.de 16 points 3 weeks ago

I'm sure it will look ✨Cinematic✨

[–] LittleBorat3@lemmy.world 2 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

It's like saying oh and the game will also stutter like crazy 🤣 Matching your refresh rate is the minimum nowadays and that's min 60 or 120. On PC I aim for 165 or 145 or if it's bad 120 fps.

30 fps GTFO

[–] toofpic@lemmy.world 1 points 3 weeks ago

I play on desktop with a big 4k tv, and I have 2060 super. So in 4k, I don't expect really high fps for everything, but 60p is a staple, if I don't have it, I will start killing graphic settings, otherwise it's just not worth it

[–] sonofearth@lemmy.world 15 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

*Proceeds to wait and pirate it anyway

[–] Katana314@lemmy.world 0 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

I’m not going to police people’s behavior, but I cannot stand those “Piracy is a moral imperative!” posts.

All they tell game devs is “Game is great! Game is awesome, no changes needed. Just need a little bit more DRM.” It doesn’t encourage a SurveyMonkey to go out leading to an internal PowerPoint where execs are told to fix the damn framerate.

The claim “If game was well optimized, I wouldn’t pirate it” is both impossible for companies to make from data, and frequently dishonest.

[–] sonofearth@lemmy.world 2 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

The argument can also be flipped by saying that companies won’t make a better game on launch because customers are happy paying for a subpar experience even after knowing the game is not optimised. It doesn’t matter to them when a few customers leave as long as they are making a profit and the stock prices remain up. And pre-booking sales already help them with that.

[–] Katana314@lemmy.world 1 points 3 weeks ago

There are more options than just “Buy, don’t buy, Pirate” though. One of them is to focus on finding and buying better games, rather than lament the situation of some AAA game whose quality has dropped. Play Casette Beasts and mention it to your friends, instead of ranting about how Pokemon has gone downhill.

You can also consider what it takes to vocalize your needs to the company. Pirating makes you a distant, silent criminal to them, unclear if you’d ever be a consumer or for what reason. Simply posting on social media, a place filled with bots and dishonesty, doesn’t make a compelling case to publishers. Heck, if someone could organize a live protest in a place that matters on a subject of a game, it could be seen as whiny, but it would draw more headlines and show someone is interested and willing to put effort on a subject.

Ironically I was going to buy a PlayStation for GTA 6. Now with digital only on both... Literally why would I? I'll wait a year and buy the "rental" for my PC.

Or, hear me out, fuck you

[–] KindnessIsPunk@lemmy.ca 4 points 3 weeks ago* (last edited 3 weeks ago) (5 children)

Not to defend them because I think it is a bullshit move, however, didn't GTAV also release first on consoles?

[–] TheLowestStone@lemmy.world 5 points 3 weeks ago (2 children)
[–] PoliteDudeInTheMood@lemmy.ca 4 points 3 weeks ago

I had an Xbox 360 just for GTA 5. I bought a PS4 just for RDR2. I'm sure as hell not buying a PS5 for this.

Also there were planned DLC for GTA 5 single player that got axed once people started spending money online.

[–] KindnessIsPunk@lemmy.ca 2 points 3 weeks ago* (last edited 3 weeks ago)

Yes that why I said

Not to defend them because I think it is a bullshit move

just that it's expected behavior because Rockstar has always been terrible.

[–] Damage@slrpnk.net 5 points 3 weeks ago

Yep, and that's why I never bought it. It released way too late at full price, fuck you Sony.

Got it for free on Epic.

[–] Kolanaki@pawb.social 5 points 3 weeks ago* (last edited 3 weeks ago)

GTA has released first on consoles ever since GTA3. Every single one except 1 and 2, didn't come to PC for at least a year.

[–] Katana314@lemmy.world 5 points 3 weeks ago

And it sold gangbusters; making the arguments against that practice a little hard to hold, as frustrating as that is for consumers.

[–] TrickDacy@lemmy.world 4 points 3 weeks ago

I think all of them did, at least GTA 3 and onward
