Showerthoughts

A "Showerthought" is a simple term used to describe the thoughts that pop into your head while you're doing everyday things like taking a shower, driving, or just daydreaming. The most popular seem to be lighthearted clever little truths, hidden in daily life.

Here are some examples to inspire your own showerthoughts:

Rules

  1. All posts must be showerthoughts
  2. The entire showerthought must be in the title
  3. No politics
    • If your topic is in a grey area, please phrase it to emphasize the fascinating aspects, not the dramatic aspects. You can do this by avoiding overly politicized terms such as "capitalism" and "communism". If you must make comparisons, you can say something is different without saying something is better/worse.
    • A good place for politics is c/politicaldiscussion
  4. Posts must be original/unique
  5. Adhere to Lemmy's Code of Conduct and the TOS

If you made it this far, showerthoughts is accepting new mods. This community is generally tame so its not a lot of work, but having a few more mods would help reports get addressed a little sooner.

Whats it like to be a mod? Reports just show up as messages in your Lemmy inbox, and if a different mod has already addressed the report, the message goes away and you never worry about it.

No they weren't.

Well, they were trying to bang his wife. So that's a party foul, bare minimum.

Honestly, even though he's the hero, he's kind of an asshole at times.

[–] holy_scroller@lemmy.zip 8 points 13 hours ago

That's basically why I love the story. Unfortunately Nolan's movie apparently has very little nuance in that respect.

And he has exactly one way to deal with issues: kill people.

Listen, the call of milf is strong. Also Telemachos talks mad shit on the internet

I can’t wait to see the look on your face when you see what happens with the horse!

This is why our generation feared quicksand.

This is just how you (slightly) expand the gene pool of Archaic era Ithacan elites. We're gonna King Ralph everybody except Odysseus!

Should note that the movie isn't accurate at all. As always with most of those made plainly for entertainment..

[–] MurrayL@lemmy.world 33 points 16 hours ago (1 children)

The original epic was also made for entertainment.

how do you know? We're you there? Checkmate losers

[–] Jax@sh.itjust.works 14 points 15 hours ago (3 children)

Wait, wait, you mean accurate to the source material or historically accurate?

Because it was never real. Discussing the historical accuracy of the Odyssey is like discussing the historical accuracy of 'Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter'.

Discussing the historical accuracy of the Odyssey is like discussing the historical accuracy of ‘Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter’.

So here's this giant wooden horse. And we ... put our soldiers in there to cause massive damage

[–] Lumisal@lemmy.world 5 points 13 hours ago

That's what a vampire would say 👀

[–] Mim@lemmy.zip 4 points 13 hours ago (1 children)

Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter’

Just reminded me: I wanted to watch it when it came out. But didn't manage to and forgot until now. Is it any good?

[–] Jax@sh.itjust.works 4 points 12 hours ago

It's fun, in a 'this is trash' sort of way

[–] papalonian@lemmy.world 14 points 15 hours ago

Yeah, the visual representation of the cyclops was nothing like what it was in real life, for example, and everyone knows the real siren's song is Fetty Wap

Discussing the (historical) accuracy of the Odyssey, is a lot like debating whether or not modern Godzilla movies are canonical.

[–] ArcaneSlime@lemmy.dbzer0.com 1 points 2 hours ago

debating whether or not modern Godzilla movies are canonical.

Honestly even that argument has more weight imo, "canonical" for Gojira means Toho Approved™, unless Toho has spoken, there's room for debate. For instance "American no, Toho yes" is my stance (without consulting Toho, but they have final say.)

It's pretty clear The Iliad and Odyssey are not "canon" to reality lol. Honestly more like "debating the historical accuracy of The Odyssey is like debating the historical accuracy of Gojira" lol.
