I feel like if you asked a conservative (which I assume this guy is) "should insulin be given away for free to save lives and ease the burden of illness?" he'd say no, because he's a stupid sack of shit that doesn't care about other people even if that would improve his own life. And double-no if those people were getting free treatment.
The virtues of free treatment for diabetes, cancer, and epilepsy not withstanding, the difference between them and COVID is that they aren’t contagious. The benefit of treating them is linear, while the benefit of slowing the spread of COVID was exponential.
I was gonna say this, but you said it way better. The important part of vaccine mandates was the contagion aspect of it; so the funding was justified by public safety and obviously care for our neighbours was a huge incentive to get more protected.
Well, I mean they weren’t free. The gov paid the drug companies quite a lot if I recall correctly. Free would be even better though.
