Gianni Infantino seems to exist independently of FIFA rather than as an extension of it, doing with the game whatever he believes is right

The reform drumbeat is getting louder and louder

Whether the move now is towards a rotating presidency shared between the six geographic confederations every four years, stricter term limits, a more ceremonial role or something entirely different, there must be a lesson learned. International football must not only heed the warnings of the past week but also recognise the direction of travel.

There can be no more kings.

One of the bans I got over on Reddit was for wishing this guy got ran over by a car, and that was way before current problems.

Should have wished he got hit by a car off a cliff into a cactus.

Fuck infantino

I would be blown away to find that I am the first person to suggest that he has a very kickable head.

Just needs a bit of wax and it'll be perfect.

Doesn't FIFA only manage the World Cup every two years? Do they have anything to do with the other leagues?

Everybody seems to hate FIFA but they glaze over the World Cup every time it comes up. More leagues, more opportunities for players, more choices for players and fans, and a dilution of the influence of any one league.

I won't comment on your rather rude and incorrect characterizations of my views, but to answer your questions, World Cups are every four years, and FIFA administers large portions of the sport, not just World Cups (men's, women's, U20, U17, Club, Futsal, Beach, etc), but also other competitions such as the Arab Cup, the Intercontinental Cup, and the Olympics, as well as coordinating between the confederations. In his capacity as FIFA president, Infantino is currently attending the women's Africa Cup of Nations, for instance.

Because capitalism style market "competition" leads to more opportunities for workers...

FIFA and UEFA and national FAs (and league associations) attract many corrupt people due to the sport's popularity.

Still they provide an international regulatory framework that applies from the world cup all the way down to amateur sides.

A player can transfer to a team in another continent and expect certain protections. A team can promote to a higher league and play on international competitions based on sporting merit.

Sure money has made it possible to buy sporting merit but deregulation is certainly not the solution to this problem.

Of all the people who are familiar with football, the only ones pushing for independent leagues are the richests clubs' owners. When Florentino Peréz says he wants to fix football's corruption I am reflexively skeptical.

In my opinion, to solve the issues with football we need automatic increased scrutiny of football officials by legal authorities.
