I don't like anyone even calling it a mistake. He made decisions based on the information he had and then tried his best to save the world. Dookie Don and his people said we didn't even have a pandemic and that it would be over in weeks. DD didn't even care if people died. This is putting the focus on the wrong person and writing articles that help do that are also a travesty.

He didn't make any mistakes. What he predicted came true and he always gave his opinion on the best evidence at the time.

I cannot believe people are pushing this bullshit if we didn't live through all of this just a few years ago.

Fauci was saving lives, while Trump, Rogan and the rest of the right wing grifters were telling people to inject bleach into their assholes....

He lied about wearing masks and told people not to wear them, directly leading to thousands of more deaths and cases. What are you smoking?

[-] pastaq@lemmy.world 2 points 1 week ago

Lied is doing a lot of dishonest work here.

  • There were mask shortages and they wanted to ensure the front line medical staff around the country had masks first
  • When he said that we didn't yet know about asymptomatic transmission.
  • There wasn't any data yet on how the virus spread.
  • There wasn't data on if homemade cloth masks would be effective.
  • He reversed this stance a month later when the data supported the guidance.

This is the kind of bullshit peddling that causes people to mistrust science. He made a decision based on the best evidence at the time, and then continued to update that stance as new information came in. What you're doing is exactly the kind of post-mortum FUD that the person you replied to was talking about.

Okay, so you already admit he HE LIED. And it's a ridiculous reason anyway, hospitals don't get masks at the grocery store, they have their own suppliers. He could have even told people to wear cloth masks!

Japan and a bunch of other countries were already masking up. It's so basic anyone who graduated high school biology could tell you this was an airborn disease and that masks would help.

He reversed this stance a month later when the data supported the guidance.

No he didn't, there was no 'data' to support the guidance. China, SK, and Japan and more were already masking up.

Your first sentence also contradicts this-you said "There were mask shortages and they wanted to ensure the front line medical staff around the country had masks first" There it is, he knew masks were working, and he told people not to wear masks. Not because of 'new data' but because he wanted to prevent mask shortages, which didn't work anyway and helped the disease rapidly spread because people were told not to mask.

God you people are so pathetic defending this misinformation that literally killed thousands of people.

There absolutely were mask shortages. Full stop. You are the one lying.

They then told people to make masks at home and leave the N95 for healthcare workers.

Convenient of you to leave out the part about ASYMPTOMATIC TRANSMISSION that I mentioned, which they didn't know yet. Masks for symptomatic people and people caring for the sick were always recommended.

All of these articles were posted during COVID. You're full of shit. Stop spreading lies.

What mistakes? "Serving" the American public for decades only to be put out to pasture?

[-] SarahValentine@pawb.social 32 points 2 weeks ago

So, is lemmy.today some kind of maga flavored lemmy? Y'all seem to post trash that gives way more credence to right wing lies than they deserve. Article says Fauci made mistakes but has none to mention, only the accusations made by the most crooked administration in the history of the US. Get outta here with this shit. Blocked.

"Dr. Fauci made mistakes"

-Article does not list any mistakes

[-] CharlesDarwin@lemmy.world 11 points 2 weeks ago

Ugh, I hate the framing on this. Mistakes? Even if true, so fucking what? Why that framing?

The truth of the matter is that the deeply radicalized are insane and broken people and will stop at nothing to punish people like Fauci because they have so much butthurt about the pandemic.

The fact that there is a fucking "movement" of people and dating apps for people calling themselves "purebloods" who were unvaccinated for Covid should tell you just how insane these people really are.

This is an another distraction in a long line of distractions from the fact that we’re rapidly running into more and more heath issues with our food, rising oil prices, and yet another endless war being negotiated by the playground bully.
