In Morocco they do this absolutely insane mint tea. You have to pour it about twice to get the right strength and then it has a big brick of sugar.

Also a really nice touch in hot chocolate if you're wanting to make it fancy.

I'd put it in a container within a container within yet another container. That shit spreads

I wish. Can't hold its own against the other weeds in our garden.

Put some catnip in and watch everything else fade away

[–] Lost_My_Mind@lemmy.world 3 points 4 hours ago (1 children)

Ooooooh, bonus, your yard will always attract cats!

[–] thisbenzingring@lemmy.today 2 points 3 hours ago

We have bird feeders and of course it's going to attract mice so the catnip is there for a balance. We have a couple neighbor cats that make their rounds and I never see them going for birds. Always stalking out the mice. Win win!

The Linux one made me spit my coffee. Lmao

I have mint. Pretty much only use it for pasta and chilli sauces now and then, but it's a very easy "set and forget" plant to have in a box planter.

Mint in pasta?

I'm intrigued. Explain further.

[–] ChonkyOwlbear@lemmy.world 2 points 4 hours ago

You can make pesto with mint instead of basil (though using both its best).

[–] saltesc@lemmy.world 2 points 5 hours ago (1 children)

Usually toward the end, I'll crush them into the sauce with chilli flakes. That's my final stage of the sauce while the water goes on boil getting ready for the pasta, along with any last final tweaks of herbs/salt/pepper then too. Better with lamb and/or pork mince.

Goes well finely chopped in white sauces with some lemon too. Usually only do that with chicken.

I have something to try next time I have some fresh mint in the house

Where are my OJ peeps?

[–] csolisr@hub.azkware.net 5 points 7 hours ago (2 children)

My mom already does - and all she uses it for is for tea, and even so very rarely. Ah well

[–] Lost_My_Mind@lemmy.world 1 points 4 hours ago

It's also a natural pest repellant. Fleas, rats, mice, bed bugs. They all hate the smell, and will avoid it.

I pla ted some mint around the house to hopefully make it smell good, some Rosemary as well

[–] csolisr@hub.azkware.net 2 points 6 hours ago

What are the chances, she also planted rosemary! And oregano, but that one unfortunately dried out

Is it sad that I immediately began to worry that mint was yet another causualty of the CDC's destruction when I saw this?

[–] Lost_My_Mind@lemmy.world 4 points 4 hours ago

I'm high, and didn't realize that mint connected to all of the things listed. So I thought mint was just another of the things listed. So I began looking for lettuce. Then I saw Linux, and got so confused.

Chewing on a mint leaf is one of life's treasures.

Mint is a treasure

[–] Mouselemming@sh.itjust.works 1 points 6 hours ago

I've tried growing mint in pots but it always gets covered in aphids and whitefly.
