They really treat Canada like a wayward US state. Good on the Canadian government to tell the US to fuck off.

They want to force Canada to use the same farm chemicals that cause US brains to rot. No, thank you.

[–] ryper@lemmy.ca 5 points 7 hours ago* (last edited 7 hours ago)

Canada passed a law allowing cabinet to authorize use of banned pesticides a couple months ago, so it's not like we're doing great in that area anyway.

[–] m0darn@lemmy.ca 2 points 5 hours ago (1 children)

I'm confused about the last one. They want the Canadian government to charge sales tax on smaller transaction for cross border shoppers? Doesn't that cause less cross border shopping/tourism?

[–] chiliedogg@lemmy.world 2 points 9 minutes ago

They don't want people buying products cheaper in Canada then bringing them home.

[–] atomicorange@lemmy.world 6 points 8 hours ago

So we’re reinventing colonialism? Cool, cool cool cool.

[–] Aceticon@lemmy.dbzer0.com 10 points 9 hours ago

Ah, a demand for vassalage.

Makes sense.

[–] melsaskca@lemmy.ca 6 points 8 hours ago (1 children)

trump b gone soon but so will Canadian goodwill towards our old southern friend.

[–] Madblood@lemmy.world 5 points 5 hours ago (1 children)

Not just Canadian good will. Trump et. al. trashed our (America's) reputation and credibility worldwide during his first administration. Under President Biden, we spent 4 years rebuilding relationships and trust with our allies, at least to the extent they could be rebuilt after the shitshow that was 2016-2020. Now he's trashed it again, worse than before, and this time I fear the damage is permanent. Even if we manage to elect a sane president in 2028, the world is finding out that they can't depend on us not to elect someone who will undo everything on a whim. Eventually they're going to get tired of us going off our meds every few years and make a clean break.

After watching what’s gone on since 2010 has changed my view of them forever

Several things have been demonstrated to me, selfishness, laziness, lack of compassion, an expectation of understanding they don’t give others…a few things

I used to have a fairly high respect for them and wanted to travel there. All gone now and it’s not likely to return because I’ve seen the hand now.

I want Australia to scrap our treaties with them but our leaders are too spineless.

[–] Treczoks@lemmy.world 18 points 13 hours ago

Or, in other words, complete surrender of Canada.

Bubba's pole... allegedly

[–] GreenBeard@lemmy.ca 55 points 19 hours ago (3 children)

As a Canadian, and Albertan, I proudly agree the US government can fuck all the way off.

[–] SaveTheTuaHawk@lemmy.ca 4 points 8 hours ago (1 children)

But you Albertans love Trump and pine to be the 51st state. All of Trump's ass kissers are elected in Alberta.

[–] GreenBeard@lemmy.ca 3 points 4 hours ago

"You Albertans" is a very broad brush. The current government only won by a very narrow margin (54-45). Our cities are largely progressive, and even our rural areas are only about 2/3rds conservative. In fact, among home-grown Albertans the UCP would already have been tossed out if we hadn't been collecting the people who washed out of polite society in other provinces for decades now. On average, we're less conservative than rural Ontario, but no one is ready for that conversation.

Dude, I'm an American and I'd have told the US to fuck off. That list is insane.

[–] AfterlifeAdventures@lemmy.world 7 points 15 hours ago (1 children)

Shit goes down majority of Americans will side and fight with you for you, I'd rather they just died thos administration, but we will stand with ya and fight these cunts as they try to start war if it does happen. All pedophiles must fuckin die especially spoiled orange fucks ue gonna be a piñata

[–] stylusmobilus@aussie.zone 7 points 13 hours ago (2 children)

So if that’s the case why aren’t Americans gathering and fighting to get rid of it before an attempt on Canada happens?

I actually don’t know if there’d be a whole lot of resistance from Americans to be honest, I think it’ll be a heap of verbal platitude but not much else.

I hope we don’t see because I don’t count on Americans doing much. I hate to say it but yeah.

[–] arrow74@lemmy.zip 1 points 7 hours ago* (last edited 7 hours ago) (1 children)

If you're talking about mass protests those have been happening. Looks like we're rapidly moving towards a progressive movement across the country too.

If you're talking about more drastic options like a general strike you are absolutely right.

If you expect a violent insurrection that's just plain unrealistic. People generally don't want to die in a war. As long as people can still scrape by, affording a place to live and food to eat, there will not be a rebellion. And don't get me wrong everything is generally unaffordable, but the majority is still keeping just above this point.

[–] stylusmobilus@aussie.zone 1 points 23 minutes ago

if you expect a violent insurrection

No, I’m answering the statement that Americans will fight alongside Canadians if they get invaded, which I don’t think they will. As for a violent insurrection like the one they told us they’d do if it happened because they have a 2nd Amendment for that purpose, no, I always knew its main use was to tell other countries that they were less free. So no I don’t think an insurrection is the answer, though it’s one they often put on other countries. Others that are doing far worse finding food and jobs, but again we have to consider those.

Some of us have been listening to this since 2010. First off they were quite nasty to us about it, then we were expected to understand, now they’re all with us and some want asylum from a vote result. There’s a few passes been handed out and an expectation of understanding that doesn’t get offered by them to others.

[–] AfterlifeAdventures@lemmy.world 1 points 8 hours ago (1 children)

I can't get involved until its actually started, there's things involved that I can't explain but I just know

[–] stylusmobilus@aussie.zone 2 points 34 minutes ago

These are beautiful images! Thank you for sharing them.

As an aside, President Pedophile and Rapist Donald J. Trump is mentioned in the Epstein files ~38,000 times.

...he hates that Canada speaks French?

Actually no, I'm not even surprised. The fucker barely speaks English.

[–] HumanOnEarth@lemmy.ca 14 points 18 hours ago (1 children)

I keep reading comments like this and getting more convinced La Riposte is going to work.

Just launched the website today, it's not going to sell anything, ask for anything. Just encourage people to learn French across Canada as a national effort standing up to MAGA. And amplify via the media/word of mouth. Graffiti. Everything.

Nothing but upsides, costs pretty much nothing to be involved, I think the national temperature is hot enough right now.

I keep getting comments removed with the link and the site is pretty bare but la dash riposte dot ca will be the site. But it's going to be a crowdsourced thing I'm hoping.

[–] Arghblarg@lemmy.ca 12 points 17 hours ago* (last edited 17 hours ago) (1 children)

Growing up in western Canada, I found myself annoyed in the past by Quebec's separation rattling, and didn't do very well at French class in our immersion curriculum in elementary and Jr. high ... but at this point I'd be open to trying to re-learn some French just to spite the US administration.

Hell, we should all try to learn some Greenlandic in solidarity with them!

[–] SaveTheTuaHawk@lemmy.ca 1 points 8 hours ago

Trump peut fuck le off.

[–] stoy@lemmy.zip 11 points 15 hours ago (13 children)

If this list is accurate, that is fucking insane.

Out of all of these conditions, only 3, 4 and 5 has some sense of not being completely insane

[–] Knock_Knock_Lemmy_In@lemmy.world 11 points 14 hours ago

3 is still restricting Canada so it is still insane.

4 and 5 are trying to increase US exports, therefore not strange for trade deals.

[–] Mirshe@lemmy.world 11 points 9 hours ago

Nah, that list isn't what you give a state.

It's the list of demands you'd give a colony.

[–] cybervseas@lemmy.world 23 points 19 hours ago (3 children)

If accurate that's terrible. How do you even start negotiating from that point…

[–] Saledovil@sh.itjust.works 7 points 12 hours ago

You don't. You pretend the demands are a joke, and ask for the real demands. If they persist, you walk out of the negotiation.

[–] T00l_shed@lemmy.world 22 points 19 hours ago

You cant. He makes the most absurd demands knowing that no reasonable country could agree, and goes to his idiotic base and says "see!" And gladly gobble down his lies

I know a lot of those were reasons given at the announcement or shortly after. Given statements made in the past, id believe the rest of them

[–] Arcanepotato@crazypeople.online 4 points 10 hours ago

I'm now seeing this is the case. Earlier I read the Liberals had not yet officially released specifics, but you are correct that it lines up with a lot of what was coming out as specific concerns from various sources and generally confirmed as accurate.

Wiseman, asked to confirm that, declined to get into details but called it “broadly accurate.”
