Did they think about adopting these franchises into good games instead?

[-] Alexstarfire@lemmy.world 5 points 3 days ago

Warcraft 4 would be nice. I got so much use out of WC3.

Warcraft 4 would be nice.

You mean World of Warcraft?

Don't worry, Blizzard got plenty of use out of that.

Believe it or not, the mmorpg was not the first entry in that series.

[-] CeeBee_Eh@lemmy.world 1 points 3 days ago

Oh you don't say? You somehow got to that conclusion from me suggesting that WoW is the 4th iteration in the series?

Believe it or not, I played the first Warcraft when it was released.

The Warcraft movie was actually good (even if it didn't bring in enough money to earn a sequel).

The Halo TV show on the other hand...

[-] Raiderkev@lemmy.world 19 points 3 days ago

That halo tv show was so ass. I sucked it up and finished season one, but when season 2 dropped, I gave 0 fucks. I still haven't watched it to this day. The fact they had insurgents with fucking AK 47s and not any halo lore weaponry was so goddamn stupid. Chief taking off his helmet in episode 1, nothing being cannon, the show was a fucking disaster.

warcraft was a missed opportunity. they should have made two movies. one from each sides perspective(just like the game)

[-] rozodru@piefed.world 10 points 3 days ago

I also enjoyed the Warcraft movie. it was a perfect introduction to the franchise. I remember at the time of release people were miffed because it wasn't WORLD of Warcraft. But still the locales and characters still looked fairly spot on if you only played WoW and not the previous games.

As for Halo. man that show was such a bait and switch. The opening to the first episode with the Spartans and the Master Chief was great annnnnnnd that's about it.

First off, nothing will beat red vs blue for Halo-verse content.

The only way I see an Elder Scrolls screen adaptation being even remotely well received by fans is if they follow the DnD: Honor Amongst Thieves/ Masters of the Universe movies, and Fallout show’s structures, where they didn’t take themselves too seriously and leaned into the cheesiness/abstract nature of those franchises.

Amazon’s MGM has had some bangers, and Paramount and Hasbro have had commercial success with Transformers, even if their flops have been more well received by fans than the movies and shows that were commercially successful.

I just don’t see Microsoft doing well with any of their licensed franchises without an established studio to produce it… feels like they’ll probably pivot to an AI slop studio to churn out some bullshit that takes itself too seriously if they actually plan on turning any of these into fruition.

Or - hear me out - they could use that money to make better games.

The Warcraft movie was excellent, and then they did nothing after. The Halo TV show was pretty good, and then they killed it.

They'll just fuck up Elder Scrolls and end it early.

I tried to watch the recent Halo TV show. It was worse than dog shit. I can’t imagine a new one can be as bad.

[-] CeeBee_Eh@lemmy.world 3 points 3 days ago

It was worse than dog shit.

As a faithful adaptation, it wasn't very... faithful.

But honestly I think it did a good job as a story.

The thing I keep hearing people complain about is simply because of the helmet. But in reality John obviously wasn't born with the helmet on (even though it seems that way in the game).

And they setup the emotional precedent for why John works alone and never takes off his helmet. Season 3 was gearing up to be pretty awesome.

Seasons 1 and 2 were more like the prequels to the story (admittedly one's no one asked for), and season 3 was going to be the actual Halo story.

I just think it should've been given the chance.

I forgot they owned all those IPs.. And they're all terrible now

[-] unitedwithme@lemmy.today 2 points 3 days ago

Idk Halo Infinite was pretty fun, and I was there playing the OG back in high school.

[-] Larry@piefed.social 2 points 3 days ago

I didn't like the single player/co-op in Infinite, the multiplayer was okay but didn't recapture the magic for me. I hated them charging for skins instead of people earning them. To each their own.

[-] unitedwithme@lemmy.today 1 points 2 days ago

I mostly stuck to the campaign, that's probably why I liked it.

[-] cheat700000007@lemmy.world 1 points 2 days ago

Halo has been terrible since Bungie moved on. 343/Halo studios has no fucking clue what they're doing and should have been fired ages ago.

[-] unitedwithme@lemmy.today 1 points 2 days ago

Your opinion.

[-] boaratio@lemmy.world 4 points 2 days ago

Microsoft considering whoring out their franchises to make line go up.

[-] BigTrout75@lemmy.world 6 points 3 days ago

That will fix the Xbox sales

[-] papalonian@lemmy.world 2 points 2 days ago

They will stream exclusively to Xbox consoles with active live subscriptions
