It's just culture war bullshit. Trump gets to distinguish himself from other politicians and pretend he's doing something for the nationalists without actually spending any money or improving their lives in any way. It also means people talk about this instead of the Iran War or the Epstein files or the masked thugs raiding workplaces and hunting down minorities.
Keep an eye out for the other side of this which will be establishment politicians running on "restoring sanity" by changing it back to Lake Ontario, because they don't want to run on abolishing ICE or anything that actually matters.
It's just another loyalty test thing so the wannabe emperor can quickly and easily determine who's openly on his side.

That's so backwards. Your name is whatever you say your name is. What is written in a government database isn't your name, it's an opaque identifier.
He's only doing it to elicit anger. He's just a petty little bully. While it might distract from the Epstein files or the domestic policy dumpster fire, i don't think he's doing it for any other reason than it amuses him to piss people off.
And its base of idiots LOVE it... they think it is a strong capable leader that gets shit done... meanwhile they're paying a considerable amount more for everything than they were mearly 2.5 years ago and do not see any correlation about WHO caused this mess. Yeah too many people are talking about things like data centers, flock cameras, digital id, central bank digital currency, so starting meaningless fights about what a lakes name is serves to get people off the important topics.

Although I’m still pissed off with the British for voting in favor of Brexit, I have in the meantime forgiven them to a certain extent. So if somebody with a British accent addresses me in the street, I am somewhat willing to give them an answer in English. Scots I will always help, naturally, them dressed in wee skirts and with their quaint musical instruments. As to how the British should react to visiting Yanks; just answer in your local dialect, nobody can understand that. Be warned, though, some yanks put Canadian flags on their backpacks and clothing. In case of uncertainty, ask them from which Canadian province they come (yankees will not know what a “province” is), or speak French with them.
