Why 40%? The value of his labor that's being redirected to the pockets of wealthy CEOs is much higher than that.

40% of his pay. They don't pay workers the full value of their labor... that would be ridiculous! Communism, even!

[-] eatCasserole@lemmy.world 10 points 4 days ago

There's another 30% that goes to non-cannibalistic regular pedophiles.

[-] Mongostein@lemmy.ca 6 points 4 days ago

Because it said pay and not value?

It varies by industry, but generally you are correct.

"child eating pedophiles" and child-eating pedophiles are two entirely opposite things. Hyphens matter.

[-] whereitsat@lemmy.zip -5 points 3 days ago

your average american can't read past elementary school but here you are with your pedantic nerd bullshit to act like details matter.

critique by grammer.. i dare you.

want more capitalizations? want me to spell grammar properly?

[-] paorzz@lemmy.world 6 points 3 days ago

55 hour work week? Over ten hours a day? What the actual fuck?

[-] zod000@lemmy.dbzer0.com 13 points 4 days ago

I used to work nearly 100 hours a week in my early 20s. It was going to kill me for sure, but 50-60 hours a week isn't uncommon sadly

[-] AlecSadler@lemmy.dbzer0.com 7 points 3 days ago

Um, this is fairly normal in the US.

Not saying it's right or good, but, yes.

[-] Sunspear@piefed.social 9 points 4 days ago

I mean technically, if you commute 90 minutes in a direction per day, along with a five-day 40-hour week, you spend 55 hours on work a week

And while 90 minutes may be far fetched in most parts of europe hopefully, I kind of suspect it isn't in the land of the free

Dude I once worked two jobs on alternating days of the week on cities 45 miles in opposite directions. You have no idea how embarrassing it is to drive to work and then realize you're in the wrong parking lot when you get to work after a 90 minute drive because traffic sucks.

Dammit now I need some fried food

[-] Derpenheim@lemmy.zip 7 points 4 days ago

America. It fucking sucks here

i knew someone in CC that did 12hr/day for 5-6days a long time ago. not surprised he burned out of his major, and switched to a more "chill major", because your own job overtook your time from studying. never try to do full time work, while full time student, you just end doing really bad on most of your classes. the rent at the time was pretty reasonable for and lucky he even found one at a HCOL like under 1000/mon rent at the time. he was trying to save for an expensive grad school in the future, but had a "eiphany' and 180 his career choices, to a 'Easier" but questionable job market job(degree)

[-] frazw@lemmy.world 4 points 4 days ago

You are assuming a 5 day work week apparently...

Who the fuck wears a hard hat hi viz in their lounge?

[-] CalypsoGirl@lemmy.today 3 points 3 days ago

Because it's a single-panel cartoon in which they need to convey an entire concept with only one picture and a few words. TL;DR Cartoons aren't real.

[-] Tollana1234567@lemmy.today 1 points 3 days ago

just came home to sit down tired?

[-] Ilovethebomb@sh.itjust.works 0 points 3 days ago

Everyone I've known that wears equipment like that takes it off the moment they leave site. No way would they wear it at home.

Not all jobs, but yeah they exist. Working on films/TV production is often 60+ hr work weeks.
