My girlfriend woke me up when the first one hit. While they were debating whether it was an accident or not, I said that it was on purpose and predicted that the other building would get hit minutes before it happened.

Late to the party but I'm 30 years old and my memories of that day have gotten noticeably more fuzzy lately. I remember there was no announcement over the loudspeaker. No cell phones so the principal had to be going down a list calling every teacher. But I remember the feeling in the air before she turned on the CRT mounted above and to the left of the classroom door. It was like a hollow version of the anvil in your stomach feeling. She told us that we are all going to remember this day for the rest of out lives and let the news play and sat down. I didn't understand what I was seeing, there are terrible things on TV every day, but I did know this was DIFFERENT. My dad came and picked me up from school that morning.

I was at a clients. They had it on tv or puter (can’t remember which).

I was aware of this stuff as of the RFK assassination (was around 10). My mom had it plastered all over the tv. That and all the daily Vietnam deaths on the news. It was a carry over from WWII for my mom I think.

I was in middle school running late for 1st period. I was thinking of how I'd make my entrance and avoid interrupting the ongoing lecture too much. After stepping through the classroom door and looking at the TV rolled out in front I knew that was the least of everyone's concerns.

I don't know that my kids remember. They were 5 & 7 which was a bit young. They knew something was going on that day because every older person was watching TV and discussing what was happening and checking on far flung family and friends to make sure everyone was safe. I heard something on the radio and quickly turned on the TV and then woke my husband to let him know. I wasn't old enough for JFK or MLK but anyone I know who was old enough, remembers where they were for those. With the moon landing most remember who they were watching with and who got their first TV for the occassion. A couple months later we were flying into LAX and it was the first time I saw armed gunman around an airport which was quite freaky and a good excuse not to travel to the US again for quite a few years. My point is that large events, with worldwide exposure and impact, usually are remembered quite well.

Yeah. Nutrition class in high school. Half a credit. Saw people dead/dying on the little tv in the corner of the room that morning. Saw all the teachers just going through the motions trying to process. Remember how confused everyone was even the newscasters. I just can’t laugh at the jokes so I know that, among other things, shows my age. But I still remember vividly “what is that falling” …it was people.

Nothing that narcissistic lump says should be interpreted as honest.

This is my most vivid memory of 9/11:

After the attacks happened - in the early morning for me in Utah - I went to work.

There I found all my colleagues chit-chating and just as worked up as I was. But one of them was sitting quietly and simply working.

I went see him and asked him: "Have you seen what happened? You seem strangely undisturbed."

"Yes" he said, "I've seen. And I'm grieving today just as I have been every 9/11 since 1973, when the US helped install a bloody dictatorship in my country. Now you know how it feels too."

He was from Chile.

What he said really put things into perspective for me.

He knows exactly where he was: wherever it was politically convenient for him to be. His supporters believe in him like Santa clause; it’s more about the meaning behind it than how the operation works. So long as they keep winning (which the goalposts constantly move, in 3 dimensions), the meat and potatoes do not matter.

I'm not sure he understands the concept of truth like normal people. It's not so much that he's always lying, just says what seems like the right thing at the time to make him appear strong and powerful. Like a bad LLM made squishy orange flesh

Watched the second tower fall personally, albeit from a distance.

I remember vividly. I was lying in bed slowly waking up to another work day. As I'm lying there the radio kicked in and I heard something about a plane striking one of the towers. That fully woke me up for sure. So I went out to the living room of my little apartment and turned on the TV. As I'm watching the news cover the smoking tower, the second plane hit. That kind of broke my brain.

But I still went into work, because bills still needed passing. But nobody did any work at our dying dot-com startup that day. Everyone was just fixated in the news, trying to process what the fuck was going on.

I remember saying to the guy next to me, as we're trying processing it all "surely they must have known about this, like the intelligence agencies must have got wind of it?" He completely freaked out at me and went on an incoherent rant at me about his his grandpa fought in WWII and how America was the greatest country ever. He apologized the next day. And I get it. We were all traumatized that day. And traumatized people do and say all sorts of things.

Come on. Time to impeach?

That would be the 30,574th time if lying as a POTUS was ground for impeachment for the orange utan.

I was asleep when it occurred. My Dad casually mentioned "apparently some plane crashed in new York" over breakfast. Once I got to school, all my teachers were quite grim but had a policy of not talking about it. Wasn't until I got home that when I turned on the TV that I finally understood what happened.

I am pretty certain I have a made up memory of it. I remember coming from school and the TV is on and everyone is is shock. But it's in the house I was living since I am 13yo, but I wasn't even 10yo at the time, so it cannot be.

16 and hung over, checked a New Zealand forum and was reading messages about how hearts were going out to NY. I walked out to my brothers friend watching TV and saying check this out. People in NZ knew before me.

I do. I was a teenager and could tell "there will be a before and after this". I was home from school having my pre-homework snack and boom, breaking news. We had visited New York the previous year. "Mooom! Uh.. the twin towers fell!" "Uh? What are you talking about"

Pacific Time so it all went down while I was asleep.

I had my TV rigged as an alarm clock set to the local news channel so I'd wake up to News/Traffic/Weather.

TV turns on, I wake up, see a plane crash into a building and I'm like "WTF? What are they doing showing a movie? Where's my news and..."

Then they showed the 2nd plane and I was like "Oh, fuck, we're going to be at war by the end of the day..."
