Who the hell tries to report someone stealing food anyways though, even non-anarchists etc.
💚
if moth sees someone stealing, no moth did not
If you saw somekne stealing glass bottles, dishrags, and gasoline, no you didn't.
Feel like it does depend a bit on the food they are stealing. Are we taking someone stealing essentials or luxuries? I don't feel so sympathetic if you are stealing caviar and expensive champaign compared to someone stealing a bag of potatoes.
The first is typically organised crime with the intent to resell it at a profit. The second is someone who is desperate to eat.
Food is food. Period. Stop with this arbitrary delineations of what other people "deserve".
Again, food is food and people deserve free and ready access to food. That's all there is to it.
And organised crime against local shops isn't something we should be supporting. When the target is a massive corporation, ehh, don't care quite so much.
To be fair, not aware of any local independent caviar shops. But there are a few with nice wines and spirits. I don't think theft against them should be encouraged. Shouldn't we support the local gin distillery?
We shouldn't be supporting any form of private property ownership.
why the fraktur font and celtic/nordic motif? that has... connotations.
fraktur was banned by the nazis. Its antique//antikva thats the nazi font
edit: this might not even be fraktur looks more like textura to me tbh
edit 2: its definitely way more a spin on textura style blackletters than gothic fraktur, notice the distinct 's' shape not being in the shape of the long s: ſ
i can only speak about the irish side of things, but idk, in the same vein of "nazi punks fuck off", i'm delighted to see people using irish & celtic designs etc when doing explicitly anti-fascist stuff.
i want the fascists trying to take those symbols from us to know that their views are shit & fascism isn't welcome in any non-fascist community
from the nordic side, i would love to agree but it's all contextual. the filigree and general style is usually fine but the space is fully coopted by nazis, metalheads, and nazi metalheads. they wear that shit publically.
like, there was an mp for the sweden democrats (the party started as a swedish offshoot of the BNP) who got media attention last year for having a futhark-runic tattoo on his neck. he claimed he just thought it looked cool and didn't know what it said but it was quite obvious that it spelled out "ADOLF".
all to say that one symbol is probably okay, but putting them together is always going to look suspicious. like that gog newsletter where they put a bunch of symbols for old slavic religions next to eachother, which all have in common that they're used by east-european nazis.
I don't agree with every anarchist idea, but this I agree with completely. You really don't need to know anything more about the circumstances of a person's life if you notice them stealing food.
On a related note, but a somewhat non-anarchist take, pay your taxes and vote for politicians that support public programs. Shelters, halfway homes, soup kitchens and food banks do a lot of good. Also donate and/or volunteer if you're able!
Shelters, halfway homes, soup kitchens and food banks do a lot of good.
While I don't doubt that, I've also seen people use this as justification to prohibit value-driven mutual aid efforts
I will say as someone who does volunteer work for homeless individuals PLEASE do your research if you decide to donate to a shelter. Many are corporate run and the money usually stays at the top amongst the board. There is something called "the Homeless Industry" and a lot of shelters that are run by companies are in it for a profit via government grants/funds not to help the individuals that utilize the shelters. Many places get funds based on how many beds/cots/mats on the ground/chairs they can keep occupied on a given night so for these places its in their best interest to ensure their tenants stay in the shelter system, not get out of it.
Charities in general mostly pay their directors and executives obscene compensation while they get the glory of being the faces of charity. These positions are often given to connected people, like the relatives of business executives, politicians, or the rich and connected.
The Red Cross is notorious for this, for decades.
Never donate to a corporate charity, asking for your extra change at the cash out. Give it to someone directly.
Read this as Titties and have zero regrets for either
Ok I guess I didn’t see the state of Israel stealing food from Palestinians
I think the applicability of this really depends on the circumstances.
- if I see someone stealing basic necessities (people in need steal basic food items, not caviar and £300 bottles of champagne), then sure, I didn't see anything.
- if I see someone waltz into a small mom and pop store and swipe a whole shelf of expensive shit, then that's a different story. I don't give a damn that it's only a few bottles of whiskey, mate, you're clearly not stealing food because you're in need
- and if I see someone stealing a truckload of food going to a food bank, you can bet your tushie there will be fists flying...
I just saw Donald Trump stealing a pizza... NVM

This is an anarchist comm. You don't have to be an anarchist to post, but you should at least understand what anarchism actually is. We're not here to educate you.

No shaming people for being anti-electoralism. This should be obvious from the above point but apparently we need to make it obvious to the turbolibs who can't control themselves. You have the rest of lemmy to moralize.
