It was never about that. It was about dismantling and defunding federal institutions which were overseeing industries. And in that they succeeded brilliantly.

[-] sheetzoos@lemmy.world 15 points 17 hours ago

America should still treat nazis like it's 1942.

[-] stoly@lemmy.world 4 points 16 hours ago

You mean take advantage of the situation and use its power to oppress the rest oh the world for the next 80 years?

[-] jabeez@lemmy.today 23 points 23 hours ago

Yet he's still listened to and taken seriously by our not-at-all-incompetent 4th estate. Literal Nazi salutes, DOGE, endless times being hilariously wrong, yet there are never any consequences, he just rolls on failing upward.

Don't forget the constant tweets that sound like they came straight out of the Turner Diaries.

[-] jtrek@startrek.website 8 points 23 hours ago

Yeah, he's a liar and a fool. He shouldn't be trusted to run a lemonade stand, much less the government

Cut from, duplicate, then re-attach it? No, that doesn't make sense either.

When this is over, Musk will be among the Top 5 on trial, along with Trump, Miller, Hegseth, and Noem. Probably RFK, Jr., too. The question won't be the length of their sentences, that would be life without parole, the question is which of them get the Death Penalty.

Edit: And Blanche. I knew I was forgetting someone.

The only reality in which this happens is with a lot of blood shed. But not a lot of people want to admit that. As long as most people aren't willing to admit that and, more importantly, aren't willing to risk that; Musk will not see justice unless he becomes a problem for the ruling class like Epstein did.

[-] BooBees@fedinsfw.app 6 points 23 hours ago

Due to his extreme ill gotten wealth, he wonโ€™t see consequences unless capital itself is in trouble and they need a fall guy for a collapsing economy and dollar

And assets seized, hoping they don't pop when you look at them wrong. Or that there's any left at all by then.

Frankly I think that would be a worse punishment for someone like Me-me-me-lon: to have to live like any other shmuck, unable to get a normal job, with secret photos and schadenfreude articles in dubious outlets.

... ahh, one can dream ... but seriously, I do believe there will be a sort of Nuremberg2.0 eventually. I just hope it'll happen before they bomb half the world and kill 10s of millions of people.

OTOH, they already started doing that.

[-] imetators@lemmy.dbzer0.com 3 points 22 hours ago

Cmon. You know it won't happen. You know you, me and millions of others want it to. But we have to be real. It won't.

[-] borosilicate@lemmy.dbzer0.com -4 points 1 day ago

Keep dreaming, unwitting identity politics dupe.

I can't wait for those promised DOGE checks to come in.

They'll probably send it along with the 5000$ voter bribe, saves on the postage

[-] A_norny_mousse@piefed.zip 2 points 22 hours ago

Any other sub, I'd demand you put an NSFW tag on this ๐Ÿคฎ

That's not even a good rate of return though - barely over 5%. The S&P 500 made over 16% in that same time period. Sure there are fewer zeroes at the end, but millions of regular people made 3x the % increase that Musk did.

[-] RoundTheBlockTwice@lemmy.world 3 points 17 hours ago

This graph is of expenditure...

[-] JeffersonBlue@lemmy.world 1 points 11 hours ago

Doh! I completely misunderstood it.

Not American here: what is wrong about DOGE auditing government spending?

[-] Rothe@piefed.social 1 points 7 hours ago

Because that is not what happened or what they were doing or even what they were claiming to be doing.

[-] ZDL@lazysoci.al 4 points 16 hours ago

Others have covered the most obvious flaw: it was 100% ineffective, causing chaos in government without any meaningful spending decrease.

But here's the real reason, and it comes together with the other real reason: DOGE was never intended to be about "government efficiency". It was intended to give Elon Musk access to all the information he could get his grubby little hands on for private enrichment and to shut down the very government departments that were in a position to regulate his companies.

[-] jj4211@lemmy.world 8 points 20 hours ago

They let essentially college students feeding questions to LLM access data they never should have had access to and then let them decide the details of cutting at the broad direction not to save money but cut the things that the administration just didn't like, without regard for law.

Ultimately resulting in no significant savings, lots of good work being undone to the point of people dying for lack of aid.

In theory, a well experienced group operating within the confines of law to identify inefficiency with how the mission is accomplished might be good. DOGE was not this.

The biggest and most obvious clue, it was all Musk wanting to backronym something to DOGE. Nothing good comes out of musk trying to so something like a 14 year old kid would.

[-] kboy101222@sh.itjust.works 9 points 21 hours ago

Instead of eliminating programs that actually were wasteful, they cut aid, education, and science programs.

And the programs that were wasteful that they claimed to have cut just weren't. They straight up lied about cutting billions in contracts

[-] Tollana1234567@lemmy.today 1 points 7 hours ago

they cut all those other programs so they can afford the BBB tax cuts.

[-] InternetCitizen2@lemmy.world 2 points 10 hours ago

Beyond that, DOGE was a libertarian project to privatize and deregulate.
