We should adopt EU road signage (allowing Quebec to keep their ARRET signs), finish the metric conversion, and adopt their vehicle standards. For the last hundred years or so we've blindly copied the US regulations, and they're clearly not cutting it. I don't think we need to fully "become EU" but closely aligning with their standards would do a lot.

Canada will probably never be part of the EU, but they don’t have to. in the end the EU is like 7 different trade agreements in a trench coat. Canada can sign similar trade with the EU

Well, the pin makes no sense. Our economies differ significantly and Canada benefits from a floating dollar.

But the spirit is correct, adopting EU rules and regulations for closer proximity to a common market makes great sense.

Wero isn't a card, it's a mobile payment system that requires a Google or Apple approved phone unfortunately. Ain't no escaping America with that.

I don't think there's any serious effort to have a payment card that's not American but works across all of the EU. Some countries have their own cards though.

With the downfall of America, an EU led block of alliances and treaties will emerge. Whatever that is called will be what Canada and other former American allies will be a part of, I don't see Canada savings it's sovereignty from America by surrendering it to the EU. The mutually beneficial nature of cooperation doesn't die with American leadership, it shifts elsewhere. There is benefit in that shifting as historic US influence on those relationships are no longer blocking progress.

If you actually take the time to read the article too, you'll notice they're literally talking about inventing a status specifically for Canada; don't expect all the perks that you people idealize about the EU.

True, but this is a step in the right direction. Even if it only ends in greater free trade options for canada and EU members, that is a win. If there is any reduction to immigration restrictions in either direction for skilled workers, that is a huge win. Anything to distance ourselves from the crazies down south is a good thing.

Canada protects half the world's mining corps, so what do you think would be the EU interest in "free trade" options with the Canadian state, and where do you think the cost of that trade is going to be pushed?

The fact none of you even ask those kinds of questions shows that you don't actually know what colonialism is or why you're a subject of it. Carney has eroded environmental and agricultural protections, First Nations sovereignty, and any hope of a break from privatized extraction of public resources for the foreseeable future. What exactly is the benefit of that? You think this is gonna be some fucking equal thing?

You know the EU is experiencing the same fascist movement as we are in North America (no, not just the fucking US, you people were about to elect one before Carney), right? Did you even check?

For now, it has been pushed into countries outside the free trade zone. Ukraine would have it much easier if it was in the EU free trade zone, for example.

So, in Canada's case I'd say the costs would get pushed to the US.

Bud, if they cut pesticide health regulation to facilitate a higher agricultural output for EU markets, the wind does not care where it blows it. You ever hear of the Parkinson's Belt?Are you people seriously going to pretend you're anti-Trump, but you don't care about axeing protections for the sake of capital? What the fuck is your problem with him then if you want to do the same thing, but for Euros?
