Last week I had to do a quick vpn setup after finally discovering that the Spanish CloudFlare ban from football corruption was blocking some niche game forums I tend to check out, this should work for you.
I basically created a second Firefox profile by cloning the first one, then added the first shitty free vpn extension I could find. Not for privacy, just to tell some webpages that no, I'm not from Spain.
If you are on the phone I'm sure there's some other random VPN app you can install and turn it on then you want to bypass Imgur, then turn off again.
Yeah they are bad VPN, they have ads and stuff, I don't care it's not for privacy.
I could use proton VPN as an app since I'm on my phone, but I already use rethink DNS as adblocking VPN so it's fiddly to turn it on and off just to see an image

You say that people could just meet you in person if they don't believe you. For people to meet you in person they'd have to be in Japan. That's obviously unrealistic for pretty much everyone here so they're back to having to take your word for it.
If you want to find friends in Tokyo, you're not going to find them on a platform where Japanese people living in Tokyo can probably be counted on one hand. What you will find is people fawning over you.
I tried dating apps, spent hundereds of dollars on them found no one i thought maybe people living in tokyo would be on here, there are a lot of foreigners. For online friends I would show them around my house on call when I trust them.
