I see Denuvo in a game, I don’t buy or even pirate said game.

[-] eleijeep@piefed.social 53 points 5 hours ago

Denuvo has done some homework, though. The filing lists a Discord user ID, a Reddit account and seven Steam profiles that it believes are linked to the cracker.

Denuvo hopes the information linked to these accounts will eventually unmask the cracker. Games have to be bought before they can be cracked, for example, and Steam purchases come with payment details.

I hope this person has good OPSEC.

a Discord user

If it doesn't belong voices38, then I pray they start a new life.

[-] HerbalGamer@sh.itjust.works 34 points 5 hours ago

I like voices38; they allowed me to finish AC Shadows because the story ending is hidden behind DLC

[-] vk8kv@lemmy.ml 22 points 4 hours ago

What in the holy dystopia did I just read?

Buy game, and buy ending too? 😭✋

[-] HerbalGamer@sh.itjust.works 15 points 3 hours ago

Yup, the story doesn't really finish at the end of the main questline but even the dlc ending felt kinda unfinished.

[-] fake@sh.itjust.works 11 points 3 hours ago

Gotta leave the door open for even more dlc if the corporate overlords decree it.

[-] orca@orcas.enjoying.yachts 4 points 2 hours ago

Choo choo! Here comes the DLC train! 🚂

[-] edible_funk@sh.itjust.works 3 points 2 hours ago

It's also the same format all the modern AC games have had. And the endings in the base game are fine, open-ended but more or less complete. All the dlc did was bring more context to a side character that wasn't really relevant to the main story.

[-] edible_funk@sh.itjust.works -1 points 2 hours ago

In fairness so do most games that launch with planned dlc. And you do get endings for each character that wrap up most plot points in the base game. All the "new" assassin's creed games have done this, you get two or three endings in the base game and the dlcs will wrap up a few remaining threads not covered in the base. Base game endings are left a little open because it's an ongoing game series but they absolutely wrap up the main plot, it's a bit misleading to say the ending is locked behind dlc when it's really just one ancillary plot thread that gets explored and resolved.

[-] ColeSloth@discuss.tchncs.de 2 points 56 minutes ago

In fairness; STFU. Not fully fleshing out a game with planned intent on releasing doc can go to hell. Games were a hell of a lot more engaging when you had to put out effort to unlock characters or skins or weapons instead of buying them, and the end of an RPG wrapped everything up and felt complete.

[-] HerbalGamer@sh.itjust.works 2 points 2 hours ago

Isn't one of the mcguffins you're chasing in the dlc? That counts as the actual ending being hidden to me. The rest is just arguments against planned dlc.

[-] edible_funk@sh.itjust.works 1 points 1 hour ago

There's macguffins left and right. The dlc in shadows is mostly around one characters past relationship that was tangential but not directly relative to any of the narrative elements in the base game.

So?

Then don't put that fucking malware in games and it won't be bypassed, problem solved.

[-] stevles@aussie.zone 35 points 5 hours ago

https://tech4gamers.com/denuvo-destroys-performance-optimization-games/

Honestly, no single malware tanks gaming performance anywhere near the levels that this shit does. It's closer to the characteristics of game cancer.

Its funny how the free market is only good when it benefits capitalists. The moment someone makes them lose money competition is over and its time to sue others

[-] Bluegrass_Addict@lemmy.ca 4 points 3 hours ago

they are NOT losing money. I would never buy this garbage to begin with. I'd pirate it to try it, but once I saw how utter shit they are I wouldn't even play the pirated copies.

they are not losing money

[-] EggInDisguise@lemmy.blahaj.zone 3 points 1 hour ago

They aren't, but they have the understanding of literal children. They can't process the fact that a pirated game isn't a lost sale, because to them every single person on the planet wants what they have to offer, and if they get it any way OTHER than buying it outright at full price, CLEARLY it must be theft and people are targeting them specifically because what they have is so great.

I pirated Minecraft back in the beta days, decided I loved it, and eventually bought it (before notch went full mask off and the sale of mojang) had it not been for TPB, mojang would have had one less sale.

Same for several others. Hilariously, the only time I ever recieved a c&d was for a game I loved and then canceled the online order for when I got the letter two days later. I wanted to buy it, but the letter made up my mind that I was never giving them money again. Fuck em. Dead rising went downhill after the first one anyway so I didn't miss much.

Executives view life as a zero-sum game.

"bypassing drm" isn't a crime any more than walking past someone on a sidewalk is.

[-] y0kai@lemmy.dbzer0.com 34 points 4 hours ago

it is in the USA, unfortunately.

https://www.jurisstate.blog/is-removing-drm-illegal#is-it-illegal-to-remove-drm-for-personal-use

But then, we also treat walking past someone on the sidewalk as a crime here as well, if that someone is a bored or angry cop.

[-] MonkderVierte@lemmy.zip 2 points 3 hours ago

US has ~0.4 % chance of the person living there.

Some people never learn.
