"Whatever happens on Oct. 19, the United Conservative Party of Premier Danielle Smith will have left Alberta a worse place than it was before the 10 referenda scheduled to be voted on that day..."

The Quebec referendums caused a corporate exodus from the province due to the uncertainly.

I fully expect the same to happen in Alberta unless the referendum delivers an overwhelming STFU result to the separatists.

Unless the questions have changed, they're super leading to the point where an average person with no desire to separate could accidentally vote in favour on at least a few parts.

considering the province keeps hiding the results of preliminary votes on the matter, it likely will.

But did they? Which companies left Quebec for another province?

Let's go through them.

  1. Being part of two major corporate moves I can tell you no company decides in 3 weeks they are moving their head office. It takes months, sometimes years of planning. Canadian Pacific had this on the radar for a long time. "...the move had nothing to do with politics or language..."

  2. UPI announced leaving Quebec in 1982, but the separation referendum occured in 1995. Are you suggesting they moved their head office 13 years BEFORE the referundum proactively? The logic doesn't work.

  3. This is just bad journalism saying Catalonia experieced something similar to Quebec, without saying what happened in Quebec.

Have companies left Quebec? Absolutely. But it is more for the draconian forced French language requrements in business than because of the referendum.

this is like expecting an abusing partner to change,

fuck the corpos whose loyalty lies outside of Canada.

Canadians will create new corpos and keep the $ here.

SERIOUSLY LET THEM FUCKING LEAVE.

Alberta is a province of the haves. It's got a great economy and great paying jobs for medium and low education needed for entry.

The whinging about being in a great situation and having the priviledge of providing a bare pittance of help to our fellow canadians, or foreigners who'd love to join us in our high seat, is unbelievable.

Could things be better? Sure! Can we all agree on what that might look like? Probably not. Could people stop being so easily manipulated by people who do not have their interests at heart? God, I hope so(also probably not).

Was a province of haves

Isn’t anymore. Wages haven’t risen in a decade and now this province is behind the others. Government has transferred ownership of public assets to a small hand chosen group in the private sector, and they are currently breaking and defunding the last two great spends: education and health care.

This province is a dead stick. And we all have only ourselves to blame.
