In a recent interview, conservative political operative Karl Rove said he’s voting for a Democrat in the upcoming midterms, breaking three decades of precedent exclusively supporting Republicans, and lamented the GOP’s embrace of far-right individuals.

“My party is being infiltrated by people like Bo French,” Rove said in an interview with The Texas Tribune. Weeks earlier, Rove described French, the Republican candidate for Texas Railroad Commissioner, as a “bigot,” after he posted several xenophobic social media posts taking aim at students of color celebrating a college football game. Earlier in September, the Tribune reported that Rove planned to vote for French’s rival, state Rep. Jon Rosenthal, D-Houston, in the race that will regulate the Texas oil and gas industry.

Ever since the Southern Strategy was adopted by the GQP they've been Nazis.

"How could this have happened?" asks guy who helped make this happen.

My thoughts exactly. Well put.

infiltrated

Buddy, you and your ilk welcomed them with open arms.

They've had Nazis in the party since at least the 70s... Not just things like the Bush family connections to providing Nazis oil in WW2, but more directly when The Heritage Foundation hired Nazis and white supremacists for various things.

https://fair.org/home/heritage-of-extremism/

....and it's only gotten more overt.

EDIT: Actually in 1999 a journalist wrote a book all about this, titled "Old Nazis, the New Right, and The Republican Party".... It's definitely been a known thing for awhile now.

[-] Atelopus-zeteki@fedia.io 6 points 2 days ago

For me the significant part is Rove, of all people, calling this out as a problem, severe enough that he will vote Dem.

Karl Rove lamenting that the GOP is too Nazi is nothing short of surreal.

This dirtbag has been a waste of oxygen for decades.

[-] wonderingwanderer@sopuli.xyz 11 points 1 day ago

When even a republican calls you a bigot, then you know you have problems...

Dick Cheney was an abhorrent corrupt vile motherfucker who pillaged taxpayer money to line his pockets, pushed to extend wars in the middle east solely for profit and shot someone in the face.

When that guy says voting for the orange pedo is a bad idea it should really tell you something

[-] sunsofold@lemmy.zip 5 points 1 day ago

At this point, I don't know how any vaguely sane person can want to be associated with the modern Republican party.

[-] BarneyPiccolo@lemmy.today 30 points 2 days ago

MAGA is the predictable outcome of the GOP he created. This is HIS fault, among others. This is what HE wanted, wished for, and fought for. Now he's whining because MAGA is losing badly, and a lot of MAGAs are going to be punished, and he's afraid it's going to reach back to him.

[-] Throbbing_banjo@lemmy.dbzer0.com 52 points 2 days ago

Karl fucking Rove is going to complain about the Nazis in the room?!

[-] Soulphite@reddthat.com 25 points 2 days ago

Hey... he's just trying to save face before the tribunal.

[-] BarneyPiccolo@lemmy.today 7 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago)

Exactly. If Trump had wasn't so jealous of the Bushes, Rove would have a cabinet post or be running some agency. He's just pissy that he can't be part of the American Holocaust.

[-] WesternInfidels@feddit.online 21 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago)

Rove's whole shtick is turning everything one says and does into a performance of some kind, to misdirect one's adversaries. I can't tell you I know what his angle is, what his goal is, but I do feel that listening to him at all is a mistake. The only thing you know for sure is that he is trying to trick you right now.

So, sure, the GOP is where all the neo-Nazis are, today. But why is Rove bringing this up? Why bring it up now, as opposed to at any other moment in the last 10 years? That's where the trick will be.

Bush II nicknamed him "Turd Blossom" for a reason.

Karl Rove states the obvious… there fixed the stupid fucking headline.

[-] leadore@lemmy.world 21 points 2 days ago

Oh no, how could it have become a Nazi party, Karl? Who worked to specifically make the GOP open to far right ideology, Karl? Who spent their entire career and influence in the GOP playing to the far right for their votes, Karl?

[-] kryptonianCodeMonkey@lemmy.world 22 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago)

Rove spent decades using unethical campaign strategies, identity politics, dog whistles, and hateful propaganda to bolster the Republican party and win them power through fear and bigotry. Now he is surprised that the nazis want a piece of that. You made your bed and made it nice and comfortable for Nazis, Karl. Now lie in it.

[-] Kirp123@lemmy.world 32 points 2 days ago

KKK has a racism problem.

[-] Corngood@lemmy.ml 27 points 2 days ago

ugh, do I want to know exactly what was too racist for Karl Rove?

Ha ha, that's funny. These guys are just so full of shit. They know the base will believe anything and their biz dickhead pals will pretend to believe anything so they don't even try to make it believable anymore.

It's almost like conservatives ruin everything they touch. Even their own roach motel.

[-] maxthemummer@lemmus.org 7 points 2 days ago

Gee Karl, don't you think that maybe you had a little something to do with that?

[-] DagwoodIII@piefed.social 25 points 2 days ago

[slightly off topic]

One of the best political novels of all time, 'The Fools In Town Are On Our Side,' by Ross Thomas. The basic plot is that a political operator decides that the only way to clean up a small southern city is to "make it so corrupt even the pimps will vote for reform."

We're seeing a pimp vote for reform.

[-] Rhaedas@fedia.io 14 points 2 days ago

He's alive?

The last time I saw him he was freaking out because he was sure the numbers for Obama were off. So much so that it seemed he expected different numbers to be "guaranteed". I thought he crawled into a hole after that and died.

I thought Ham Rove WAS a nazi

He is a propagandist and unethical strategist that used fear and hate to win his party campaigns for decades. He may or may not actually be a bigot himself. Could just be an opportunist without a moral backbone. But if he wasn't a nazi sympathizer, he sure was a useful idiot paving their wave into the mainstream.

It’s not a bug, it’s a feature

[-] Smaile@lemmy.ca 7 points 2 days ago

Gonna assume he's trying to give himself space from the cons before things go bad during the midterms to try and save himself, no other idea why he's trying to say this.

If Karl rove is saying the GOP has a Nazi problem and it’s going to vote Dem then I think we’re all going to die sooner rather than later. I think this was the seal right after Chaney.

[-] Heikki2@lemmy.world 11 points 2 days ago

I recall before the last election, I saw people at a corner on a busy road in Flower Mound, TX. They were there waving trump flags, maga flags , confederate flags, and one nazi flag. There was a lot of honking, I aasume as support. There was probably 10-15 people there. Thats a lot of nazis

Does it count as a "nazi" "problem" when it take up more then 50% of its structure? Cuz y'all are just kind of going along with it.
