Hi all,

In this community we have not banned reposts, but discouraged them to help keep the community fresh. However, we are revisiting this policy. Sometimes reposts can be meaningful and timely, and we want to acknowledge that. So as mods, we are reaching out to you all to hear your opinion. What should our policy be? No reposts whatsoever, or allowing them if relevant and timely, or as many reposts as you like! Comment with your thoughts!

Here are a couple articles that live rent free in my head and I'll be tempted to repost: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Erfurt_latrine_disaster

I'm pro reposts, I hadn't seen two of those articles you have mentioned in the post.

XKCD's 10000 rule definitely applies.

Just because it was posted before doesn't mean it was seen.

Constantly reposting is just spam though, which (I assume) is already banned.

not if its been done in the last month. that is my feel for old enough. granted something reposted every month on the month would be annoying.

For a place like this, if it's been a year'ish then whatever.

I like reposts if I haven’t seen the thing before. I hate reposts if I have seen the thing before.

I am okay with repost and ideally ones that are relevant or timely would be nice. I also realize that puts extra burden on the moderators to validate a repost is relevant. Just my thoughts though

In my three years in this community, I remember one time distinctly that something was a repost *within a short span. And it didn't get yanked because conversations were happening in the comments.

There are so many articles to choose from, and posts come from such enormously varied backgrounds + interests, that the community self-regulates for the most part.

You're all great. Keep posting weird shit.

This comment filled me with joy. It makes me so happy that mutual appreciation for the different groups of people who make this space work is more possible here because its all more human and takes place at a more intimate scale where relation is possible

Thanks for running this space, I really enjoy being part of it :)

no objection to reposts, if they are well-spaced. some ppl who join later may miss a post or maybe wont go back thru post history.

I think that they're fine. New users show up all the time (hopefully!)

If they wind up becoming a repetitive problem, can have some sort of minimum time placed on them.

I would not personally repost the Erfurt latrine disaster article again right now if I were you, though, as I posted it only two weeks ago, and it's the 54th newest post as of this writing. That seems like anyone who goes to view the posts on the community is probably already going to see it.

Wait, what was the question? I just got lost in a list of lists of lists. Oh right, reposts are fine I guess as long as there aren't too many.
