Dozens of people were reported to be in isolation after a Russian laboratory worker at an institute dedicated to studying the plague and other infectious diseases died of an undisclosed illness.

The researcher, a 28-year-old female laboratory technician at the Irkutsk Research Anti-Plague Institute of Siberia, in the town of Shelekhov, died after being diagnosed with a pneumonia of “unknown” origin, according to Rospotrebnadzor, the Russian agency that handles infectious disease.

This is the news article you find in a paper on the ground in a post apocalypse video game

[-] wonderingwanderer@sopuli.xyz 1 points 1 hour ago

It reminds me of like January-February 2020.

Like, listening to the radio and every morning the news headlines are "there are now X confirmed cases and extending as far as Y, Z, and W"

And every day, X gets a little bigger, and Y, Z, and W get a little further from Wuhan, until you start to notice that it's actually getting closer to you. And then you hear about the first reported cases in your country. Et cetera...

[-] brem@lemmy.world 6 points 1 day ago

But can you make anything out of it, or is it just there to see for backstory?

Surely you can't be serious...

Big headline on top

Little text full of lorem ipsum underneath

[-] vaultdweller013@sh.itjust.works 2 points 7 hours ago

Alternatively it's the newspapers you can find in Arcanum where they are really in depth for no reason other than world building.

Zoom in. more. MORE!

Aha. There's a garage sale at the weird house for Tuesday. Off day for a rummage, eh?

[-] some_designer_dude@lemmy.world 22 points 22 hours ago

Should I be stocking up on horse pills and toilet paper?

[-] Witchfire@lemmy.world 5 points 20 hours ago

Get that bleach inhaler ready!

[-] Mister_Hangman@lemmy.world 2 points 18 hours ago

Just bleached my asshole and tanned my taint. Is that good enough?

[-] Hueristic_Autistic@lemmy.world 1 points 15 hours ago

How much it run you cause the place I use keeps shaving my asshole and I keep telling them, "I'm fine with a little bit of blond hairs, it'll be like a target!" They look at me strange and say something in a language I can't understand and shave the area. I wish they respected my wishes but I am thankful that they don't use the wax, though they use the single blade and they tell me to relax and then I tip them extra so they won't cut my asshole but they told me that asshole blood smells worse than shit so I think they don't cut my asshole because they don't want to smell stinky asshole blood but the anxiety tipping can't hurt, right? I think they shave it before they bleach it so I'll tip extra because they know I'll always tip extra in an attempt to not have my asshole cut.

sigh the things we do.

Just a bit of beef tallow!

[-] Obituarykidney@lemmy.world 21 points 1 day ago

This is how the news for corona virus started. Only to find out China had been suppressing it and it was much further along than anyone else knew.

[-] psycho_driver@lemmy.world 3 points 15 hours ago

Yeah I remember my first exposure was a post on reddit with like 3 hospital workers all in full hazmat suits rushing a bubble-covered gurney from one location to another in probably Dec of 19 and thinking that nothing good was going to come of that.

[-] majster@lemmy.zip -1 points 19 hours ago

Yeah. I still like the lab escape hypothesis.

If a super virus that could kill us all escaped... you would hear about it like this.

[-] ThePantser@sh.itjust.works 33 points 1 day ago

This will be fun.

[-] JoMiran@lemmy.ml 26 points 1 day ago

We all assumed that Raccoon City was in the US because the games were in English.

[-] QueenHawlSera@piefed.social 12 points 1 day ago

Well that and the games were specifically set in America

[-] vaultdweller013@sh.itjust.works 2 points 7 hours ago

That's what they want you to think.

[-] Coldgoron@lemmy.zip 23 points 1 day ago

I want the full plot before I’m dead damnit.

[-] brem@lemmy.world 17 points 1 day ago

The plot is... Greed!

Sorry, you were expecting more?

[-] TastehWaffleZ@lemmy.world 6 points 23 hours ago

Japan had a biowarfare lab during WW2, knowing Putin I’d be more surprised of they didn’t have one.

russia had once since the early days after ww2, they are one of the few ones to have smallpox SAMPLES in thier BLS-4 LABS. they had several incidents of other pathogens being released. tularemia, Q fever, anthrax, smallpox, Yersinia, and many others.

[-] brem@lemmy.world 1 points 23 hours ago

They'd need two, one fake and one real. Like the show Lost, but not fun.

[-] Snapz@lemmy.world 3 points 19 hours ago

They really are desperately afraid of these midterms... New scam please? I'm all done with everything is either a scam, actual nazis or a plague.

[-] felykiosa@sh.itjust.works 4 points 23 hours ago

october 5th, 2026 the day I'll never forget

[-] Phanlix@lemmy.zip -4 points 15 hours ago

Please god send an actual plague. There are too many people on the road and I'd like you to thin the herd. Especially since we know that Trump supporters were dumb enough to have coughing and spitting competitions at events like Sturgis which they held illegally while Covid was going.

[-] kreskin@lemmy.world 2 points 22 hours ago
[-] Shameless@lemmy.world 3 points 20 hours ago

Probably even better, they were working on anti-plague so he probably died of like super plague that can't be suppressed as easily.
