The directions on the website were sparse. The part numbers in the manual didn't match the part numbers on the website. All I need to filter is arsenic, my tap water is from aquifers and is pretty good otherwise, no sediment, rust, or other chemicals. So, I just bought three arsenic filters.

Don't really need the arsenic filters, the water is just under the standard 10 pbb, but I figured why not? When the filter was new, I paid for a water test of before and after the filter. Before was 8.(something) and after was 0.5ish. So, it made a big difference.

No amount of arsenic is safe, like no amount of alcohol. Same idea, but with water. I'm sure arsenic, even at 8, won't be the thing that kills me, but again, why not filter it since I can?

I need to do mine. Have to order a new filter first. I just have a separate tap for drinking water rather than this fancy set up. Installed after Northumbrian Water refused to acknowledge the chlorine smell and blame my 1 metre of plumbing from the inlet to the sink

I have an under the sink RO system under my sink also. The filters are expensive and are capable of only a slow output. They do work and make my tea taste better.

But I live in a very rural area and need to have my own well. The water is potable as is. But does suffer from extremely high iron and calcium levels. So it's hard on those filters. They only last half as long as they are supposed to.

Ah yeah the tennis racket wrench.

That's a pretty good filter, but keep an eye on it for the first day or so to catch tiny leaks, I used to sit it on a dish towel so they'd be easy to see.

I toss that plastic crap and use a real strap wrench.

RO systems are great. Once you get on hard to go back

What a waste of potable water.

Whole house RO would be great. Not in the budget. Not even close.

Also, like I said, our water here is pretty good overall.

[-] chonglibloodsport@lemmy.world 10 points 1 day ago

Whole house RO doesn’t really make sense. RO is very slow. It needs a reservoir to store the filtered water which depletes and replenishes in between uses. One shower would blow through a whole month’s supply of RO drinking water.

No need whatsoever to wash dishes or do laundry with RO water.

RO also puts about 3-4 gallons of wastewater down the drain for every gallon of filtered water it produces, which is usually acceptable for drinking water quantities, but would be extremely wasteful for bathing and laundry.

I guess I need to add “worry about arsenic” to the list.

[-] Bluewing@lemmy.world 1 points 1 day ago

Depending on where you live, naturally occurring arsenic in the soil might need to be added to your list. Large parts of the world have that problem.

[-] TrackenDaKracken@lemmy.world 7 points 1 day ago

If you're on city water, they probably publish test results for your water on the city website.

Stay away from rice then!

It’s very sad to me, because I love rice!

[-] Bluewing@lemmy.world 2 points 1 day ago

Not all rice has higher levels of arsenic. Some places do though. It's hard to sort them out. And often the "high" arsenic rice is still in the safe levels. And only becomes an issue if you eat large amounts of it every day for all your life.

I personally prefer Thai Jasmine rice myself. Which I love because of the aroma, but is considered to be very low exposure to arsenic.

Anything in the ground can wind up in your water supply. Fertilizer runoff from farms is a huge concern.

My city even publishes the data , and explain the common sources for our water.

Please tell me in not the only one stun locked into thinking the filters were massive by virtue of the sink that's on top of them...

Oh wait, that's a frame for the filters... Under the sink.

Or maybe I should just go to sleep

Hell yeah, brother!

Hey I did that yesterday!

This reminded me to change my air filter for my forced air system, thanks
