This is why advertising should be not only illegal but abuse should be punishable by public beating by anyone who walked by the stocks you get locked in. I want to get very literally mideaval with it. FUCK ADVERTISERS AND ANYTHING THEY ARE INVOLVED IN.

I WANT THEM TO SUFFER.

That's a job. They pay us to add stress to our lives. And, they don't pay us nearly enough for that, making the stress worse.

Sounds like working as a psychologist

[-] Skullgrid@lemmy.world 32 points 2 days ago

when you're rich enough you just do that. "I'm suing you for emotional distress"

I tried to get an ISP to pay me back for the 4 hours of troubleshooting I had to do when their install tech lied about some of the features I had signed up for.

Didn't work :(

For extra fun, try getting them to pay you back for outages.

If they charge $50/mo and there are 30 days in this month, but they had an outage that lasted for 3 days, that's 10% of the month's service you paid for and didn't get. You should get a 10% refund for that month.

The problem I have with that come from an experience of thougths:

Take a primary school where parents are supposed to pick up their kid between 4 and 4:30pm. Some parents only pick them at 5pm, everydays, with excuses... To stop the situation, the school asks parents to pay a fee for each 15 minutes late they take. Now many parents (who can afford it) feel allowed to pick their kid at 6 or 7pm, without excusing themselves: it is more convenient for them and they pay for the service.

And no, we should not allow the extra-rich ones to stress us, they are too good at it (and some seem to even enjoy stressing us).

Should be able to charge companies for wasting our time on the phone with chat bots and retention reps.

A guy in the UK had his number converted to one that charges the caller by the minute.

I think he only made like 300 GBP over a couple years, but it's a pretty good way to at least get a little back (Lee Beaumont).

[-] LodeMike@lemmy.today 2 points 1 day ago

Is there something that differentiates this number from others?

[-] ITGuyLevi@programming.dev 2 points 1 day ago

I think it started 0871 (similar to a 1-900 number in the US), beyond that not too much (well and costing 10p per minute to call). He was completely upfront when submitting it to places that might call, stating that it was a toll number, but most of the companies that sell cold calling lists strip all the extra information out and just include the name/number/address.

I'd bankrupt my own family in days

[-] OwOarchist@pawb.social 8 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago)

Nothing's stopping you from sending them invoices.

Those invoices would not be enforceable in any way and would almost certainly be ignored ... but you can still send invoices. Who knows -- maybe one of them will be dumb enough or inattentive enough to actually pay it?

[-] Gaja0@lemmy.zip 2 points 1 day ago

Or malicious compliance

[-] balsoft@lemmy.ml 4 points 2 days ago

This is just called "a job". I wish I could get paid $3000 for three days of work tho

[-] Ertain@feddit.online 3 points 2 days ago

Man, the accounts receivable I could have would be huge. Also, I would only accept cash, and no 2/10, net 30. I want it in full at the end of the month.

[-] minty@aussie.zone 6 points 2 days ago

My Dad about to be bankrupt lmao

[-] sit@lemmy.dbzer0.com 1 points 2 days ago

What is with your dad?

[-] JennyLaFae@lemmy.blahaj.zone 5 points 2 days ago

Just a special little safety knife that gives a very specific paper cut. I get cut mentally, they can endure a superficial papercut for cutting me more deeply and more people would learn faster imo

[-] CheesyFingers@piefed.social 3 points 2 days ago

We would make a living off of school lmao

[-] Jankatarch@lemmy.world 1 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago)

Money for that is way too close to dystopia.
We can demand cuddles and praise, maybe?

[-] glimse@lemmy.world 3 points 2 days ago

Uhhh yeah I think I'll pass on cuddles from Trump, Musk, Altman, etc

[-] RampantParanoia2365@lemmy.world 1 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago)

Yo, that is a fine writing prompt. ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ”ฅ

I'm thinking it's a world where everyone has implants and metal tattoos, and the first time someone brings a lawsuit like this. It's a huge scandal that it's not dismissed.
