elon backs nazi; shocking headline....

[-] k0e3@lemmy.ca 1 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago)

This reminds me; I gotta get rid of 1password.

Nazi pseudodistros aside, I wonder if they could sell those tokens for real money. If not, it might as well be 1.5M in magic beans.

If I were running a tech project, and elon musk offered to help I'd quickly begin questioning all of my life choices.

[-] Neptr@lemmy.blahaj.zone 71 points 6 days ago

Well DHH is a Nazi fascist so he won't be questioning anything.

This person assumes the best case for DHHs statements and excuses things by mentioning lack of information, but does not do the same for the person they are arguing against

This can of course be explained by them not realizing that, but that would mean that both the original post and this one are not thought out enough

[-] TehPers@beehaw.org 2 points 5 days ago

This article does everything in its power to try to twist DHH's words in some charitable manner while assigning (and subsequently defecating on) some arbitrary Rubyisms to an article that had nothing to do with Ruby.

Ironically, the article does exactly what it claims the others were doing by assuming those others were responding to his article based on uncharitable assumptions or poor faith.

The words a person chooses to write in a blog post are thought-out and explicit. He chose his wording to convey the meaning it did, knowing full well what the connotations of those sentences were. He reinforces those connotations with his later speech. And now he solidifies that message by accepting something of monetary value from Musk.

The far-right plausable deniability game isn't going to work here. Evaluating speech solely on the semantic meaning of the words alone disregards the most valuable parts of communication. His message was clear, and it's people like this who choose to ignore it (or who silently agree, though I don't know this author so I have no clue which it is).

You would question your choices because you don't want to be the kind of person Musk would support.

This is everything DHH wants.

Omarchy is so funny. There's nothing interesting there (it's just Arch with some questionable configs). It doesn't solve any existing problem that wasn't solved before, because it's still Arch.

And yet the technofascists can't stop supporting it. It must be virtue-signaling.

Wowie, you've credited another Arch fork derivative with a shitload of usage credit for your fourth-grade AI model. Surely this will have an impact on technology.

Then again, it's a match made in heaven. Nobody cares about Omarchy, and about the same number of people would care about Grok if they couldn't get pornography out of it.

This happens a lot. Every once in a while there is a technical "trend" that spikes on Twitter and everyone virtue signals to support. A recent example is Jev, or OpenClaw. Sometimes it's a straight-up scam, like the old Reflection Llama 70B finetune that made Matt Shumer infamous.

Another one that's such a distilled example, to me, is TurboQuant. It was this paper Google released on reducing the size of KV cache with a few stacked techniques: https://arxiv.org/abs/2504.19874

Hence the "Quant" part. And it generated a frenzy. CNBC was talking about it. Inference frameworks had to deal with hundreds of vibecoded PRs, everyone wanted it and was Tweeting about how it was going to leap LLMs forward.

...And it was nonsense.

Well. The paper wasn't nonsense. It was a good paper.

But it mostly wasn't new, or radical. Some engines (like exllama and some llama.cpp forks) had already implemented most of it (cache quantization, hadamard rotation) for YEARS, and no one cared. It worked alright, it was fine. But by the time Google published the paper, new attention schemes were making it entirely irrelevant anyway, yet people were acting like it was some kind of revolution.

And it may sound different, a linux distro vs a paper. But this is basically Omarchy.

The people hyping it (and funding it) don't understand the first thing about it. They aren't actually using it, probably. But it showed up in their Twitter feed, and now they're compelled to virtue signal with their support for the Next Big Thing.

There’s nothing interesting there

Yet people can't stop talking about it, positive or negative. Something is interesting.

[-] yuri@pawb.social 3 points 5 days ago

well there’s the fash angle

[-] DupaCycki@lemmy.world 7 points 4 days ago

I guess that settles the entire debate, in case anyone had any doubts.

[-] hendrik@palaver.p3x.de 31 points 6 days ago

Lol. $1.5M in Grok tokens. The gooning and misinformation service.

[-] lemmyng@lemmy.world 14 points 6 days ago

The pedophilia and disinformation service.

[-] xxce2AAb@feddit.dk 22 points 6 days ago

Thanks for the warning, I guess.

The funny thing is that DHH isnt even doing anything with that much money to make Omarchy better, seems like all money is going into his pocket

[-] JadedBlueEyes@programming.dev 2 points 5 days ago

It's being funneled to aligned projects like hyprland and so on

[-] NocturnalMorning@lemmy.world 4 points 4 days ago

I feel like I am living in a simulation where the creators are just messing with us now. The headlines have just gotten too oniony over time.

[-] belated_frog_pants@beehaw.org 7 points 5 days ago

Of course it does. There is no reason to do this except to say "yay" to DHH being racist.

[-] AtomicHotSauce@piefed.social 15 points 6 days ago

Of course they did. Omarchy is one of the only openly fascist-run Arch customizations.

[-] tofu@lemmy.nocturnal.garden 11 points 6 days ago
[-] Avicenna@programming.dev 2 points 6 days ago

mildly politically aligned

[-] definitemaybe@lemmy.ca 8 points 6 days ago

And watch while they claim $1.5MM in revenue and $1.5MM in "marketing" to juice their books just a bit more.

[-] lemmyng@lemmy.world 6 points 6 days ago* (last edited 6 days ago)

Is there a list of these asshole backers anywhere, so we all know who to boycott?
