Fucking barbarians. How do I unsubscribe from everything American? I’m done.

[-] jobbies@lemmy.zip 2 points 3 hours ago* (last edited 3 hours ago)

I can't believe no-one is stepping in to stop it. I'd expect it from somewhere like Saudi or Iran, not a supposedly 'western' country. America is cooked.

[-] Codpiece@feddit.uk 2 points 3 hours ago

Call me skeptical, but I bet it’s only being going to be live streamed because his name is Hasan.

The sick fuck wants it to be live streamed

[-] ms_lane@lemmy.world 10 points 6 hours ago

I'm genuinely surprised it isn't Pay-per-view with the money going to his ballroom (or back pocket)

[-] Corporal_Punishment@feddit.uk 1 points 3 hours ago

There's still time....

[-] CritFail@lemmy.world 4 points 6 hours ago

Money on Trump wanting to be the one to shoot him at a ceremony on Fifth Avenue.

[-] daannii@lemmy.world 17 points 9 hours ago

It's also not good to force others to execute someone.

It either gives them PTSD or gives them a lust for more murdering.

Bad either way.

[-] Rivalarrival@lemmy.today 4 points 4 hours ago

Firing squads aren't forced. They ask for volunteers. And for this guy, they'll probably have to hold a lottery.

Still, this is just another distraction from the dumpster fire that is the 47th presidency.

[-] stoy@lemmy.zip 8 points 6 hours ago

There is an interesting fact I remember reading about firing squads.

There was a custom (possibly still is) where the squad was handed a random selection of normal and blank rounds before the execution, the point was to prevent anyone from knowing who actually fired the killing shots.

[-] Kirp123@lemmy.world 11 points 6 hours ago

From what I read online though it's possible to tell if you fire a gun with a normal bullet vs a blank. Especially if you've fired a gun before, which I assume most of the people doing the execution have.

[-] P1nkman@lemmy.world 1 points 3 hours ago

You are correct. The recoil is completely different.

[-] stoy@lemmy.zip 2 points 6 hours ago

Yeah, also don't they look different?

[-] HubertManne@piefed.social 4 points 9 hours ago

sorta hard not to. someone sticking the needle in or working the contraption. no matter how much you automate someone is going to be the last human thing that instigates the process. I mean in a scary dystopic thing (which face it is like how we have been going for awhile) there would be a robot or something that activates on a schedule based on the current court ruling. that pretty much puts it at the judge or jury at that point.

[-] triptrapper@lemmy.world 12 points 7 hours ago

Have you considered... not having the person executed at all?

[-] Seralth@piefed.seralth.com 1 points 1 hour ago* (last edited 1 hour ago)

Banishment can be a much worse punishment than execution.

There's also just throwing them in a dark small room for 40 years.

There's plenty of things far worse than death to punish people with if your just looking to be cruel.

Death penalty like this is just a state level pr stunt and propaganda basically. Since other methods aren't as catchy headlines.

[-] daannii@lemmy.world 2 points 6 hours ago

But someone makes the robot. Ultimately it falls on someone.

[-] FinishingDutch@lemmy.world -1 points 6 hours ago

I think that sort of thing is usually a volunteer detail, so I don’t imagine they’d force someone if there’s people willing to do it.

I personally wouldn’t have an issue shooting this particular guy.

[-] sns@lemmy.dbzer0.com 19 points 12 hours ago

I wonder why they're not using lethal injection?

[-] Arcanepotato@crazypeople.online 34 points 11 hours ago

In case this isn't a joke or if other people want to know, the president gets to choose the method: https://www.npr.org/2026/10/07/nx-s1-5993539/firing-squad-execution-nidal-hasan-fort-hood

There is some speculation that recent events are influencing it but I would tend to believe it's the desire to appear strong. Remember that flurry of executive orders on the first day of his latest term? One of them resulted in reinstating firing squads for federal executions.

Seems like as good a place as any to ask...there doesn't seem to be any great way to kill a person. I used to think asphyxiation by nitrogen was the ideal for a dignified and gentle death, but I guess that has issues. So has anyone anywhere developed a method that isn't so terrible or unreliable?

What about something super instant and imperceptible...like being given general anesthetic and having the head (or entire body) placed into some kind of superfast pneumatic crushing machine that works in a fraction of an second and has a self-cleaning feature? Guaranteed death that no one has to see or clean up and isn't felt by the executed person?

That being said, I'm opposed to the death sentence. Not because I don't think there are crimes for which a person deserves to die, but because of the potential for a false accusation.

Our species is so heinous.

[-] Hoimo@ani.social 8 points 5 hours ago

It's actually super easy to kill someone if you're not a pussy about it. Humans do it every day. But it will never be "clean" or "painless" and it's a fantasy to think there could be a way to kill someone that is entirely free of guilt.

The problem with the death penalty is that the accuser calls for the death penalty (on paper) and a judge sentences the accused to death (on paper) and then they don't do it right away, but put them in a hole for 40 years. Decades later, some pencil pushers process the stack of papers and have to go get a wretch out of the hole to kill them. At that point no one has the motivation to actually do it, so they try to think of ways to honor the stack of papers without actually feeling like they murdered a defenseless old hole dweller who hasn't done any harm for 40 years.

I also think the death penalty is stupid. If you kill them right away, they don't have the chance to change. If you kill them later, they have already changed too much to justify actually killing them. Just make them work the mines for a couple years and reconsider once everyone has calmed down.

[-] FuglyDuck@lemmy.world 7 points 6 hours ago

The problem you’re going to have is that there simply is no good way to kill someone that does not want to die.

It does not matter how painless it is. It doesn’t even matter if it feels good. they will resist, just as soon as they realize what’s happening.

Something like the sarco pods rely on the willingness and desire of the people using them. (Or at least, for the intended purpose). If you tried to use them for executions, the victim would resist the moment they saw it.

If you try it sedate them, they’ll resist the sedation. If you try to slip something in the food, they’ll stop eating, etc.

The problem isn’t the method. The problem is it’s inhumane on its own.

[-] Havatra@lemmy.zip 2 points 5 hours ago

What kind of issues does nitrogen asphyxiation have? From what I know you'll lose consciousness rather easily, and from there it's a quiet road to death?

  • It's readily available (it's 71% of our air)
  • Not hazardous (the body doesn't have to be treated as toxic waste compared to drug injections)
  • It has nearly no margin of error compared to injection or electric chair (the victim can't "almost" die)
  • No doctor/engineer experience needed for operation
  • It's peaceful

What am I missing?

[-] CoconutPete@aussie.zone 10 points 10 hours ago

Youre just describing a fancy guillotine

[-] My_IFAKs___gone@lemmy.world 1 points 9 hours ago

Yeah, guillotine was the inspiration, but it has baggage in the form of post-drop lingering consciousness for a few moments.

[-] Arcanepotato@crazypeople.online 6 points 10 hours ago

In the US, doctors are prohibited from participating in executions. I'm sure that doesn't help people make informed decisions when coming up with ways the state can kill people.

[-] Kirp123@lemmy.world 4 points 6 hours ago

It's one of the reasons lethal injection executions get botched. The people doing them rarely have any medical training, sometimes they can't even find a vein properly.

And vodka, dont forget the vodka.

Guys. We need to watch it. We cant ignore this shit any more. Its gonna suck, but we need to witness. We're the bad guys.

[-] Mantzy81@aussie.zone 0 points 1 hour ago* (last edited 1 hour ago)

First, no, you don't.

Two, please don't American Defaultism. Not everyone is from the US

Three, yes you are the bad guys and we all hate you (the US, not you particularly)
