Excerpt of the executive order https://www.whitehouse.gov/presidential-actions/2026/09/inaugurating-the-era-of-super-intelligence/ from last week:

The terminology used by the Federal Government should reflect the transformative capabilities of these technologies and the limitless opportunities they create for the American people. Accordingly, the term “Super Intelligence” more appropriately captures the promise, potential, and rapidly advancing capabilities of these technologies. It is therefore the policy of my Administration that, to the maximum extent permitted by law, the executive branch shall use the terms “Super Intelligence” and “SI” in place of “Artificial Intelligence” and “AI” and will not acknowledge the usage of “Artificial Intelligence” and “AI” in any applicable setting.

It's Large Language Models (LLM). You should not call it AI anyway.

[-] MaxLemminist@lemmy.ml 6 points 6 days ago

La La Models

[-] Swedneck@discuss.tchncs.de 2 points 6 days ago

except that people are pissed at things like image generators too, which aren't LLMs at all. So we use the umbrella term "AI" which people understand.

[-] YetAnotherNerd@sopuli.xyz 1 points 6 days ago

Both are generative AI

[-] weps@lemmy.world 0 points 6 days ago

LLM is a subfield of a subfield of AI.

What's your point? LLM is still a part of AI.

[-] MonkderVierte@lemmy.zip 4 points 6 days ago* (last edited 6 days ago)

Yeah, but people think it's Intelligent, which causes issues.

Well, the companies that train them also want you to mistake it for a person, what with "thinking..." and whatnot.

[-] weps@lemmy.world 2 points 6 days ago

I see your point. Like how the cloud isn't a cloud and a bug in a computer is rarely a real bug.

It's been "AI" for like 70 years now. The term will probably stay.

[-] edgesmash@lemmy.world 2 points 6 days ago

It's important to reiterate to non-techies that what we commonly refer to today as AI is all essentially a best-next-word generator.

[-] weps@lemmy.world 1 points 6 days ago

That's not where the money is though

[-] filcuk@feddit.uk -1 points 6 days ago* (last edited 6 days ago)

The language has already moved on.

* Dislike it all you want, that is the truth.
We don't fight game AI being called AI. Why? Because it's part of the language. Everyone knows what it means and that it's not actually anything intelligent. Explaining LLM to another PM every week instead of just saying AI or gen AI just makes you annoying at this point. Noone cares.

[-] PangurBan@lemmy.world 7 points 5 days ago

Loyalty test. A very effective one given how often it's talked about literally everywhere...

[-] Dreamer@lemmy.ml 6 points 5 days ago

They're not even artificial intelligence. They are just glorified probability machines. Slopability machines, if you will.

[-] NigelFrobisher@aussie.zone 5 points 5 days ago

Bad news for OpenAI.

[-] AnnaFrankfurter@lemmy.ml 8 points 6 days ago

I thought it was Democrats who would send you to gulag for not using proper names \s

[-] darkangelazuarl@lemmy.world 9 points 6 days ago

It's pronounced superficial intelligence.

[-] folaht@lemmy.ml 5 points 6 days ago

Okay, I'm going to say it.
AI has secretly taken over the white house and this is their first demand.

[-] Sina@beehaw.org 2 points 6 days ago

That would be better.

[-] PorqueSan@lemmy.world 3 points 5 days ago

What's with the unhealthy obsession with renaming things? Is there a medical term for his condition?

[-] bertlewirth@lemmy.world 2 points 5 days ago

Trump derangement syndrome

[-] BenLeMan@lemmy.world 3 points 5 days ago

Fair, since anyone with natural intelligence considers the White House to be THE ENEMY as well. Thank you for your attention to this matter.

[-] pineapplelover@lemmy.dbzer0.com 7 points 6 days ago

Was gonna ask if this was the onion and saw the sub. Wtf

[-] pineapple@lemmy.ml 4 points 6 days ago* (last edited 5 days ago)

They're communities in lemmy not subs, jsyk.

[-] MaxLemminist@lemmy.ml 3 points 6 days ago

There aren't.
But they are.

[-] pineapple@lemmy.ml 1 points 5 days ago
[-] pineapplelover@lemmy.dbzer0.com 1 points 5 days ago

Subs is faster to type, I suppose you can short communities to comms

[-] pineapple@lemmy.ml 2 points 5 days ago

Yeah, also nice username.

[-] bertlewirth@lemmy.world 3 points 5 days ago

ok, let me start off by saying.....

ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE

I guess I'm an enemy now. Awesome.

[-] Glurbox@lemmy.zip 5 points 6 days ago

And those who are mentionned in the Epstein files are his friends right?

It makes sense in this world that makes no sense.

[-] peetabix@sh.itjust.works 3 points 6 days ago

I guess Jensen is now the enemy. He keeps slipping up and calling it AI.

[-] Hexadecimalkink@lemmy.ml 3 points 6 days ago

Soon it will be if you use the word AI you're a Chinese commie.

[-] Hirom@beehaw.org 2 points 5 days ago

Slop Instrument

[-] Revolutionary_Apples@lemmy.ml 2 points 6 days ago

This is so dumb. SI and AI refer to different things. SI refers to a GAI that has surpassed human capability on all tasks. A GAI is an AI that is capable of performing all tasks given to it. AI, is not a wrong term for any of these terms and there is no freaking way that SI has been created when we still havent made GAI.

[-] ipkpjersi@lemmy.ml 1 points 6 days ago

You think he actually knows what AGI/GAI means? lol

[-] skisnow@lemmy.ca 1 points 5 days ago

This is some King George III shit right here

[-] Appoxo@lemmy.dbzer0.com 1 points 5 days ago

Guess I am the enemy.
¯\_(ツ)_/¯

[-] solbt@feddit.org 2 points 6 days ago

spurious intelligence

[-] ShinkanTrain@lemmy.ml 72 points 1 week ago

In Epsteinland, you become an enemy of the state if you deadname the slop machine

[-] HorreC@lemmy.world 61 points 1 week ago

fucking call them LLMs, what they are. Do not dress up the pig and put lipstick on it.

[-] Swedneck@discuss.tchncs.de 1 points 6 days ago

so if i'm talking about how police are generating child porn, i should say they're using Large Language Models?
Are you sure you have thought this through?

[-] HorreC@lemmy.world 2 points 6 days ago

It is that, language can be pixels, hell we used knitting for codes in the past. It seems like your definition needs to be looked at. I mean there are tribes that used notched wood to write (and also map). So while it seems uncomfortable to you to use the term like this, it is indeed what it is. And even if not, you wanna use the word intelligence instead while referring to the thing you just described??

[-] Mouselemming@sh.itjust.works 17 points 1 week ago

I prefer "Fake Intelligence" but okay

[-] Quacksalber@sh.itjust.works 14 points 1 week ago

I wonder who bought his ass this time. No way Trump cares about those computaahs without being prompted.

[-] bamboo@lemmy.blahaj.zone 14 points 1 week ago

Probably Slovenia, they saw how much Anguilla was making on .ai domain names, and wanted to get in on the action with their .si TLD.
