I'm much more of the "what does Costco have" kinda guy

[-] Corkyskog@sh.itjust.works 1 points 1 day ago

The Mr. Bronners peppermint soap is invigorating. Wife says it's too invigorating for her cracks, but I like it.

[-] eestileib@sh.itjust.works 1 points 1 day ago

Tea tree and peppermint, keep those the fuck out of my shower. 😄

[-] mushroommunk@lemmy.today 92 points 2 days ago

Speak for yourself. I'm a dude and currently smell like oranges and lavender

[-] cRazi_man@europe.pub 38 points 2 days ago

I got a floral smelling perfume that was labelled "for men". Really liked it. But got told a bunch of times "someone's wearing a lovely women's perfume". Maybe I just want to smell like flowers too goddamnit.

[-] UnfortunateShort@lemmy.world 8 points 2 days ago

I just straight up started wearing women's perfume. I really like sweet and powdery smells, as well as vanilla notes. You don't really get stuff like that 'for men', but their stupid labels can't stop me.

[-] Malica@lemmy.zip 10 points 2 days ago

No shade, everyone should enjoy good perfume

I don't know what "Ocean Charge" is supposed to smell like but it was cheap.

I just use cheap products and if they don't pass my "do they work" test I dont ever buy that one again. My body wash test is extremely simple. If I wash my armpits and I can still feel antiperspirant still there after, the body wash fails and I'll never buy it again.

If it washes it all out... It passes.

Edit: That said some products by the same company fail while others don't. I found a pomegranate one time that worked extremely well and I swore I was going to stick with that moving forward... It apparently was limited time couldn't find it again and the next product I bought from the same brand failed my test... So I was sad.

[-] mushroommunk@lemmy.today 1 points 1 day ago

Clearly "Ocean Charge" is supposed to smell like the king of Atlantis

[-] Bo7a@piefed.ca 4 points 1 day ago

Right? I'm a fairly big hairy bikery punkerish type. I am told I look intimidating.

But if you get up close what you're going to smell is blueberries and vanilla!

I'd love to buy a body wash that isn't marketed to people that want to fuck sharks for the government.

[-] Semi_Hemi_Demigod@lemmy.world 2 points 1 day ago

Dr. Bronner’s comes in normal scents and works really well as long as you don’t mind it being covered with the ramblings of a madman.

My favorite is peppermint because it feels tingly.

[-] groucho@retrolemmy.com 1 points 1 day ago

Yeah that's a good reminder. I need to go back to that stuff.

Agree except for passion fruit. Passion fruit only goes well in POG... Passion Orange Guava. I has all three separately as a kid and never had the audacity to cross the streams. But when I last visited Hawaii, POG was their drink. It's like salsa in Mexico or Mexico ketchup at McDonalds. POG is Hawaii and passion belongs there. Passion fruit in a deodorant... Hmmm, start with passion fruit as a basic thing that is food. If I was stranded in a small island full of passion fruit vines I would rip up the vines to go fish. I'm vegan, but I cannot be fed passion fruit. I have an extreme disdain for the aftertaste. I think I'm ok with the initial taste. But add orange and guava and things start looking good. But as a deodorant? How about a banana? Peal it and stick it up your armpits? Hmmm... Don't know man.

me spending a bunch of time and money to find and buy unscented stuff:

[-] terranoid@lemmy.cafe 17 points 2 days ago

...just make your own at that point and save money? You should not be suffering spending extra on unscented stuff. That's like the easy ass default. You can buy unscented soap in bulk for cheap as hell.

And haven't tried this, but: https://cadryskitchen.com/diy-coconut-oil-deodorant/

Like baking soda, cornstarch, and coconut oil might be all you need for an unscented deodorant

[-] janus2@lemmy.zip 13 points 2 days ago

sadly i am a stinky/sweaty lady and require antiperspirant, not just deodorant. which I did actually attempt to make myself once. i bought aluminum chlorohydrate powder and then proceeded to not make the time/effort to make an antiperspirant gel/spray out of it for about 5 years before giving up, admitting to myself it was an abandoned project, and tossing it along with components for several other abandoned projects in a pre-move cleanup 😑

fortunately I'm actually good on soap for now between Kirk's Coco Castille unscented and my hipster friend's homemade unscented olive oil soap :]

shampoo and conditioner have been difficult. I like the CeraVe ones I currently use but have to decide if I'm satisfied with their performance enough to justify the price. 😬 though if I do decide that I'll likely get them online for cheaper next time I run out

it is a big dumb scam that unscented things usually cost way more than scented.

[-] Soggy@lemmy.world 6 points 2 days ago

It's often harder to make "unscented" stuff because it means that none of the ingredients can leave a noticeable odor. Customers expect "no scent" not "smells like baking soda and tallow but not added fragrances".

The gender product grift is laughable. And yet people eat it up. I couldn’t believe the first time I saw these at almost 2x markup of regular unscented baby wipes:

[-] Randelung@lemmy.world 7 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago)

Yes but baby wipes are for ✨ ^baby bottoms^ ✨, while the XL wipes are for ASS.

Never mind the probably small size difference or the fact you can use two.

Apparently, women are supposed to smell like things while men are supposed to smell like concepts.

[-] Allero@lemmy.today 1 points 1 day ago

This is always such a bullshit. The products marketed at men are ALWAYS either "deep cedar - smell like your granddad!" or "SUPER ICE ARCTIC FRESH!!!!!!!"

Before I learned to ignore it completely, I was constantly stuck between two equally terrible options.

[-] Ephera@lemmy.ml 18 points 2 days ago

My deodorant apparently smells of "dry impact" and I guess, the color red...?

As in, they have another deodorant in the shops of the same brand, identical description on the label, except it uses blue as the highlight color and it says "dry active" instead.

Like, those pictures are way too concrete in the meme. I just get to smell like concepts.

I buy manly vanilla or citrus deodorant because I am a manly man.

[-] captainlezbian@lemmy.world 3 points 1 day ago

As a woman, I just want to smell like trees with a bit of floral or musky undertones. My taste in scents is my butchest aesthetic
