Making copies of handbags. I'm a guy and have never used a handbag. But I got into leathercraft during COVID and, well, it's kind of gone from making BDSM style basic shit, to Ren Faire items, to making bags.
Amazing work! That's beautiful.
Thank you. It's based off the LV Speedy. Grabbed some "questionably legal" hardware to match it. But made it all from raw materials otherwise. Hand stitched it all. Which took many nights sitting on the couch watching podcasts or twitch streams. But it's honestly my favorite part. Just a nice long relaxing time of craft satisfaction.
Hardest part is that you literally sew it inside out and then have to "birth" (literally the technical term) the bag by flipping the whole thing inside out at the end. Major feelings of anxiety as you hope your stitching and glue hold up during the flip. That's why the picture has some weird bulge parts. It was taken right after I flipped it. It smoothed out more with time as the leather settled down and I packed the inside with my entire collection of socks and (clean) underwear for a few days to stretch it out.
Working on a raw denim + denim colored suede leather tote now. I wish I could just do work like this as a job. But, no one is gonna pay enough to sustain the labor required unless it has a popular brand name on it.
Though I have ripped apart (to create templates for copying) some old or damaged designer bags I've found for cheap, and have been surprised at the lack of actual quality for many of the "high end" brands.
Rant. But, you replied and knew what to expect :) Hell, I could probably talk for 30 minutes on the zippers alone.
Damn! 👏
Holy hell!
Wants a handbag now 😳
No, thanks. The last time I discussed my favorite subject here, I was called names, downvoted, ridiculed, and personally attacked for liking the "wrong" thing.
Y'all have fun though. I'm glad you have a safe space to enjoy.
Now I'm genuinely curious, if it wasn't something pedo or fash, what could trigger such a response?
You like windows?
Is it guns? That seems like a topic that Lemmings would be stupid about.
I’m going to imagine from your username that it’s gourmet hot dogs. /j
I’m sorry you’ve had such a rough experience here though :( /gen
I feel like all my favourite topics are just repulsive to most others hey. I don't blame them, it's mostly woke pondering about politics, economics, society, history, etc, etc. but yeh, try talking about any of that without triggering people into emotional states. I wish I instead was totally obsessed with something approachable like cars or plants or smth but nope, that's just not me.
Edit: no I do have a normie obsession! Game design, I could talk about that all day and forever.
Same. My "solution" is that I just don't talk with other people. I'm not into blahblah and noone wants me lecturing about the state of the world and the internet or gaming.
So how would you approach a turnbased hex newbie friendly but complex war game?
My son loves fungi. He reads loads of fungi and mushroom books, the favourite being a handbook to identify them. We see it as a way to enrich his mind and explore the world so we engage with him on this. We go mushroom foraging, not necessarily to gather them to eat, but to photograph and identify. We'll spend an entire weekend doing this but mix it up, like having to cycle somewhere, or explore a new forest, stop at a play ground, etc. We get other people and their kids involved so he can socialise while doing what he loves.
He's converted me. I'm now obsessed too, but not in it as deep as him.
That sounds like you're having a fantastic time. There's little that's more calming than walking through nature and looking at it.
Absolutely. We take pictures then spend time looking at them against his book. Something we can all join in with.
I'm not autistic but I love tanks. Their history, the technical stuff, the politics behind them and so on.
I've driven through all of Germany and back in one weekend to go the Panzermuseum Munster and I've been to the Bovington Tank Museum twice and really want to go again.
My apartment is full of Cobi tank models, I have like ten different tank themed t-shirts and at least two hoodies and a Christmas sweater.
And then I see their eyes glaze over and they've lost interest because I've gotten too excited.
Rare is the person who actually is interested with me. I can count them on one hand.
philosophy and woodworking. :)
As someone who makes Minecraft mods, what is your opinion on something like Luanti? I would imagine it being open source and welcoming modifications makes it an interesting proposition for modders of similar games.
I hadn't heard of it before. I generally appreciate games that have a modding API, but the types of mods I want to make usually aren't possible within the constraints of a modding API.
Open source is always nice.
It can be hard, even for myself, to keep track of my current special interests, for my specific special interests keep varying from times to times.
Currently, I'd summarize as: I'm trying to somehow rescue and resurrect (or, rather, spin off one myself, as archæology says there aren't records of this) Mesopotamian worship and invocation of Goddess Ereshkigal/Alatu (who's an older identity and name for Goddess Lilith, as per Burney Relief).
I went all the way into using ORACC ePSD2 (electronic Sumerian dictionary maintained by University of Pennsylvania) together with David Halloran's Sumerian Lexicon 4.0 and Wiktionary (oh, and FWIW, no AI; AIs aren't even able to output Sumerian and Akkadian with the proper meaning discovered by assyriological archæology, to begin with).
I designed an art with Ereshkigal's name (as faithful as possible to scribes' calligraphy seen on tablets such as CDLI's P393779) which is likely going to become a t-shirt for myself (part of the drawing is seen as my current PFP). I want to bear Her name just like I already do with a "tattoo" carefully made on my left forearm after the Seal of Lilith (the one with the symbol of Saturn sitting atop a vertical line and cross-like markings at every extremity, originally inside a circle which I deliberately omitted as the circle is meant by Goetians to "bind" the dæmon to the practitioner's Will and one shouldn't even dare to try "binding" a powerful Goddess to begin with, so the circle-less sigil is meant to call out to Her without the "binding the dæmon" part, meaning She's totally free to do as She Will; ideally I'd do an actual tattoo but I never made a tattoo before, also I can't afford one, so this, together with the urge to do some "things" to my biological garment and to use my "vital chemistry" in an actual ritual I performed, made me do a permanent mark in my own "Poor Man's way" a long time ago; a very faint scar beautifully managed to become permanent on my skin; maybe one day I'll make a tattoo on top of it, making it further visible 😄).
Currently, currently (as in, since yesterday), I'm trying to design an actual divination board (a custom Ouija board) with Ancient Near East writing (Latin alphabet got replaced by the 22 Hebrew letters; "Yes" became 𒀭𒈾 an-na which is Old Babylonian for a literal "yes", "No" became ?𒉡 in-nu; I don't have the "in" cuneiform to paste ATM but I wrote it by hand on my drawing, with several actual clay tablets as visual reference; maybe I'll ditch Hebrew and try using Proto-Sinatic alphabet instead), and owl-related symbolism (especially a Bubo virginianus "Great horned owl" drawn at the Moon side of the Ouija board, defiantly facing a Corvus corax "Common raven" drawn at the Sun side, inspired by the fact that owls and ravens have a natural conflict; also, to me, ravens are to Lucifer as owls are to Lilith (I worship both as complementary forces in an ideal union through the unified archetype of Baphomet, although I'm biased towards the Lilith side)).
After I complete the design, I'll print it (hoping I can do it in a Brazilian stationery shop without triggering any bigoted questioning from christians) and use its printing as a basis to somehow carve it to an actual wooden board (I have a digital soldering iron which also serves as a burning pen on wood), so gnoses could happen through something other than my mind (maybe I'll also end up getting some clay and somehow making a majestic owl figurine for myself, with my own hands like I digitally did in Blender a few months ago, to further complement my modest personal shrine and to follow me to my tombstone when I finally leave this world behind).
(I wonder whether the things I just described are special interests, hyperfixation/hyperfocus, or both, or entirely something else such as Geschwind's hyperreligiosity)
You also seem to like writing 😚!
Oh, I got a quite complicated relationship with my own writing (and, by extension, my creative expression as a whole, as I've been doing drawings more than I do writings)...
Most of the time I do enjoy it, especially when creativity manifests as this sudden stream-of-unconsciousness and leads me into rabbit holes of knowledge at 3AM (aka spiritual gnosis), often through the researching of specific fine details I'm intending to put within the text/drawing. Some of my drawings even induce me actual altered states of consciousness I wouldn't experience otherwise (esp. when I draw Lilith as I "see" Her, anthropomorphically and strigimorphically).
But then I have this frequent realization that I'm way too verbose or "pedantic" to the neurotypical society, and my unfiltered artistic expression is very dense (requiring the viewer/reader to decode nested layers of symbolism and knowledge for it to make sense), even deliberately cryptic (as I sometimes imbue it with steganography and/or ciphers akin to those of "Cicada 3301 puzzles"), so I end up trying to keep most of my expression to myself; most of my art is unpublished... except art is a form of communication and a communication that doesn't make it outside my headboard notepad/sketchbook (that is, beyond my and my dæmons' awareness) would be considered, to my "Luciferic-apatheistic side of me", merely an inner monologue with extra steps...
Makes me think of some writers who wrote pages and pages, then scrunged and compressed it down to just one phrase that condensed it all...
Also, come share your art on Artshare! You can even make another account if you want.
I find there's a pretty big distinction between an excited info dump and talking too much
I like passion. I'll do my best to listen and follow along to an info dump, even if it's way over my head, because passion is infectious. Some of it bleeds over, and I often find myself learning about something I normally have no interest in. Or I do know about the topic, and I still don't mind because it can still be a real moment of connection and bonding
There's something about the genuineness of it that I think is just lost in neurotypicals
On the other hand, it often set my teeth on edge when people are just talking for the sake of talking. It makes me uncomfortable when I feel held captive socially, and over explaining is the worst. It's so mentally unengaging
Guitar pickups
Hand winding?
No just the differences in tone from different variables
That's fair. I'm fond of filtertron type pickups.

The clones I put in my home built axe are a pretty reasonable facsimile.
Used to be Skyrim. On a road trip, I once explained the entirety of the assassins' guild ("Dark Brotherhood") quest line to my wife, who is not a gamer. In detail. With dialogue choices, storyline choices, what happens if you do X, what happens if you do Y, full spoilers, where it ends up, who betrays whom, all that good stuff.
We were bored.
I've also explained, at length, exactly what Enderal is. In short, it's a mod for Skyrim, but it's also a whole new game that takes the game engine and some of its assets, but has you create an entirely separate character, uses separate saves, is set in a whole different world you cannot reach from Tamriel (the world space of Skyrim and the country Skyrim is a province of) and vice-versa, and uses elements from Skyrim, Fallout (specifically, radiation), and their original world. It's basically a game within a game. It became infamous as the revered "Skyrim grandma" Shirley Curry tried it, and rage quit because it was too hard, and everyone loves her. She's even been confirmed as an NPC in Skyrim's sequel. (It's not that hard if you're a seasoned gamer. But Curry is an octogenarian grandmother, and Skyrim is an easy game that she enjoys live-streaming casually on social media. No one who knew Enderal should have recommended it to her. That's entirely on them.)
