[meta] what's up with the recent account deletions? (lemmy.ml)

i've noticed a number of accounts which were fairly active in this community suddenly go dark recently:

  1. ~~@kivihiili@lemmy.blahaj.zone deleted their account about 6 days ago~~
  2. @katiecakes@lemmy.blahaj.zone deleted her account about 7 hours ago (less than a day after a friendly back-and-forth comment chain with me)
  3. ~~@applebusch@lemmy.blahaj.zone deleted pretty much her entire post/comment history from the past six months at some point within the last 24 hours, consisting mostly of posts and comments here and on !trans_joy@lemmy.blahaj.zone.~~
  4. @erinmeow@piefed.blahaj.zone seems to have also wiped most of her comments and posts at some point in the last 6 days

these are only the ones i've noticed, perhaps there are even more?

i was willing to accept a possible coincidence with the first two, but three fairly active accounts going dark in a week, two of which on the same day, is setting off alarm bells. does anyone know if these people are alright, and what the heck is going on?

previous versioni was redacting applebusch's account because it was still up, but in retrospect that only really makes it harder to know what's going on, especially now that there are multiple accounts which appear to have done that. for posterity, here is the old version of this post:

  3. at some point in the last 24 hours, another formerly very active user deleted pretty much her entire post/comment history from the past six months, which was mostly posts and comments here and on !trans_joy@lemmy.blahaj.zone . (not tagging here because her account is still up, even if mostly blank, and i don't know her reason for quietly deleting everything)
    EDIT: to be clear, i am NOT referring to Miisha, who has apparently also deleted her account within the past hour or so.
    EDIT: the account in question is @applebusch@lemmy.blahaj.zone, she has revealed herself in the comments.

Damn. Looks like we've taken quite the hit here.

I remember talking fairly regularly with kivihiili; always some cool and impressive projects.

I didn't interact much with katiecakes or erinmeow, but their comments and posts were always nice.

I'll miss applebusch. Great comments and posts, always fun to talk with.

i care, you're an important member of this little community and seeing all your messages gone scared me :(

that said, i'm very relieved you're okay (physically) and that your account purge was unrelated to the others. all the cute trans girls in my phone mean quite a lot to me - frankly interacting with this community is one of the main things which got me through the past few months - and the thought that somebody might decide to end it one day and i'd have now way of knowing what happened is terrifying. and i'm sure i'm not the only one who feels this way!

i don't know what exactly is going on, but if there is any way i can help (or even if not and you just need an ear), please don't hesitate to reach out. your community is here to support you, if you'll let it :)

Oh, you know. Bit of the old bipolar. My bf had a work accident. One or two of his vertebrae are fractured. He's lucky to be alive and able to walk. Combine that with the bad stuff I've been doing on 196, mix in my mental health and account deletion is probably the mildest outcome of all of this.

i'm so sorry about your boyfriend 🫂 glad to hear that he's not paralyzed, back injuries are scary. hope he's able to recover relatively quickly...

I used to be very anti-drug but honestly, this is fine. These are not normal times, and you can use whatever means to get through them. Know your limits and make sure to be alright when the times get better (they wiill!)

I was only aware of #3 and Miisha. I have no idea why or if its a coincidence. Somehow it notified me when #3 deleted a reply on something I posted, and I did see some of the process of purging the comments.

I hope they're all doing fine, but this is concerning. Please let us know if you get any explanations through DMs even if you can't share any details.

If I leave by choice I promise to leave some explanation somewhere. If I suddenly delete my account or dissapear without explanation, that is cause for concern.

I'll probably try to figure out matrix tonight or tomorrow.
