I've been using Deemix for several years, but it's not maintained anymore and it finally stopped working :<

But the way it worked was you paid for a deezer.com subscription and gave the login arl token to the deemix app. Then the app could download the music files using your account.

Is there anything like that these days?

Is there a particular reason for downloading from streaming services? If not and lossless is important to you, it might be easier to use something like Soulseek (via Nicotine) and get flac files. There are some projects like SockSeek that can automate downloads (I used it when it was called sldl to convert my YouTube playlists into a local flac music library).

is sockseek one of those clients that doesn't share back and just leeches off the network?

If so please don't use it, people have started putting capatchas on their shares because of these clients and it messes up legitimate clients like slskd

[-] CmdrShepard49@sh.itjust.works 2 points 1 week ago

Soulseek is like Napster. You're not downloading from a swarm just directly from others and once you host those files, people can download them from you.

[-] micgerne@lemmy.dbzer0.com 7 points 1 week ago

I am well aware of what soulseek is. sockseek is not soulseek though, it's a vibe coded app that doesn't share back to the network and causes issues with legitimate clients.

i tried register at metal-tracker 2 days ago, never got the verification email, tried it with a different email on a different domain just now, still no email--is it abandoned?

[-] pelikan@lemmy.dbzer0.com 2 points 1 week ago

There is likely some issue with the mail server you are using, as i'm downloading and seeding on metal-tracker right now, and also i see new uploads and numerous new user registrations from today.

I think streamrip is what you want

https://github.com/nathom/streamrip

and there's an updated and maintained version of deemix here:

https://github.com/bambanah/deemix

[-] paris@lemmy.blahaj.zone 11 points 1 week ago

A fork is maintained here

https://github.com/mornyeapp/Mornye

Used to be called Spotiflac and they've renamed themselves like two or three days ago, you might need to add this as a repo source to install the plugins:

https://raw.githubusercontent.com/spotiflacapp/spotiflac-extension/main/registry.json

Not sure how long that link will last and I haven't found the new one for Mornye yet

*Edit found it:

https://raw.githubusercontent.com/mornyeapp/Mornye-Extension/refs/heads/main/registry.json

[-] UntimedDiffusion@piefed.zip 8 points 1 week ago

Does Mornye actually work? Last time I tried to use Spotiflac it would intentionally not connect to download servers unless you had the version locked behind the author's Patreon

[-] darius@lemmy.ml 1 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago)

Yeah it takes some initial setup but then it 'just works'™, although I know the one you're talking about you might have been using the other build called spotifree or spotidownloader something like that

[-] devaly@ani.social 1 points 1 week ago

it seems their spotify integration doesn't download stuff, did it ever download lossless flac from spotify?

[-] i_stole_ur_taco@lemmy.ca 7 points 1 week ago

Best I’ve found is yt-dlp against YouTube Music. Their catalog is pretty complete but there’s definitely more legwork involved than point and click.

[-] SwooshBakery624@programming.dev 10 points 1 week ago

YT Music is lossy, unfortunately.

[-] prole@lemmy.blahaj.zone 4 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago)

You can use yt-dlp on non-YouTube sites.

And I know there are ways to enter credentials and stuff so it might actually work for OP. Not sure though.

It's such a wonderful piece of software.

[-] TigerAce@lemmy.dbzer0.com 5 points 1 week ago

Use soulseek instead. Don't use those evil streaming services.

[-] infekted@lemmy.dbzer0.com 5 points 1 week ago
[-] NGC2346@sh.itjust.works 4 points 1 week ago

Although not directly from these, the Soulseek service through Nicotine+ is amazing for this.

[-] driving_crooner@lemmy.eco.br 3 points 1 week ago

Learn to use yt-dlp on a terminal. Is way easier and practical that a GUI and you can learn it if you invest a little of time and effort on how to use it in a terminal. 99% of the you are going to use the sem options and just pasting the link.

You can even make a script to read your linkes and automatically download the nusic.

[-] micgerne@lemmy.dbzer0.com 5 points 1 week ago

can yt-dlp grab things from deezer?

[-] Kissaki@lemmy.dbzer0.com 4 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago)

I can't confirm, but given the question is several hours old without response;

yt-dlp can use webbrowser cookies to use browser login sessions --cookies-from-browser firefox, which may be enough

[-] exdor@programming.dev 1 points 5 days ago

No DRM though, which they use

[-] bandario@lemmy.dbzer0.com 3 points 1 week ago

I don't really understand why you would want to do this unless your music tastes are SO obscure that the releases don't exist anywhere else.

There's a hundred different places to grab astounding high quality FLAC releases and start your own high quality collection.

[-] zout@fedia.io 3 points 1 week ago

There's this: edit:removed due to vibe coded

[-] g8phcon2@k.fe.derate.me 0 points 5 days ago

@zout@fedia.io what is wrong with vibe coded? The dude literally asked for recommendations on vibe coding himself.

@Unbecredible@sh.itjust.works @eleijeep@piefed.social

[-] zout@fedia.io 2 points 4 days ago

Well, you have AI assisted coding, where a programmer uses AI to write code faster, and you have vibe coding where someone who has no idea can deliver functional software. The first I have no issues with, but with the second you never know how vulnerable your stuff gets to being hacked. I didn't look into this project much, but when someone comments it's vibe coded, I assume it really is vibe coded. And since there are already other alternatives mentioned in this thread, I just went the safe route and deleted the link.

[-] g8phcon2@k.fe.derate.me -1 points 4 days ago

@zout@fedia.io I've worked in commercial software for over 15 years, and I have 0 trust in security on anything hand coded.

[-] gravitywell@sh.itjust.works 2 points 1 week ago

I setup some tools for my own personal use but its open for anyone else who wants to use it.

https://shrike.gravitywell.xyz/

It sources from tidal and soulseek

Firehawk52 has a website for sharing of cookies to deezee and qobuz.

I use lucida.to, and fallback to yt-dlp if the song I want isn't on there.

[-] cosmicgorilla@lemmy.sdf.org 2 points 1 week ago

You could try Spotube. It's sort of a front end for your Spotify account and can download songs. Can be buggy at times but it works.

[-] danielfm123@lemmy.zip 1 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago)

JDownloader or ytdlp (the second has a UI separately)
