This is the free market at work.
Isn't it technically not a free market if pieces of it are colluding?
Not that I think this is a bad thing; a 100% free market is a terrible thing.
No, it isn't a 100% free market if the rich can pay politicians to enact laws in their favor.
There should only be "just" laws, not unjust laws. A just law in this context would simply be any law that protects people from a violation of their will within a logical order of operations across time. So murder, rape, theft, fraud, etc., would all be illegal.
What wouldn't be illegal? Drug use, prostitution, etc.
Would speeding be illegal? It depends. Who owns the road you're speeding on and what did they tell you the speed limit was?
I would still own my home so if you came in it would be illegal for you to smoke crack in my bedroom because I say I don't want you to do that, and it's my home, so it's my rules. If you choose not to obey I have every right to ask you to leave, and if you refuse, I have every right to use violence upon you to make you leave.
Unjust laws are just those laws that step from victimless crimes, such as say, smoking weed.
Did you think I said otherwise? Or are you just ranting with me and not at me?
Ranting with you.
Ah okay, cool. Given your comment received a round of applause and mine was controversial, I couldn't tell if people (including you) were tracking that we were agreeing.
Its an absolutely garbage service and needs to no longer exist. All food delivery services like this are trash and I refuse to use them. And ridicule/shame everyone that does.
I disagree, it can be invaluable for disabled people, but this service is very badly paid and that's obviously bullshit.
There was a local delivery service that charges businesses a flat service fee instead of 70% of the order.
It didn’t survive ofc.
If the system games you, game the system.
Yes but in this case neither the delivery drivers, three nor the restaurant, nor the customers win, only Uber wins.
So do we need a new app?
Yeah its called the restaurants website / phone number and delivery through that has existed since the freaking 80s. Some restaurants web ordering through their website is like 20 % - 30% cheaper in my experience.
I tried this for a while.... Then the restaurants I was getting from started sending orders with doorDash/uberEats drivers anyways..... And always were much slower and worse service than direct.
I no longer order delivery because they all ended up going that route.
Sorry to hear that. Seems short sighted on their end.
But that move isn't on the board for these delivery drivers.
Maybe. Unfortunately the few attempts I've heard of where the company tries to be fairer to all parties causes the company to go bust because it isn't sustainable. So the alternative isn't another app, it's to just not be lazy and go into the restaurant.
Love to see collective action like this. We need more of it, everywhere.
for some reason, i can’t hate them for this. i mean i never get food delivered like that anyways, so maybe my feelings don’t matter. but obviously things are not easy for under drivers.
Why should you hate them?
WRONG answer: because this raises prices! All trades are perfectly elastic and this will come straight out of consumer surplus.
The treats must flow
Wtf where is the thought even come from that you should hate them?
This is the internet you’re supposed to hate everything
Higher prices still mean higher profits for Uber, right?
Companies like Uber frequently charge customers more and try to pocket the difference. They lowball drivers and hope they accept the lower fee.
Last time I got surge pricing here it was 3x the price and the driver told me he only got a 20%ish increase on his pay, so yeah, uber pockets most of the difference
in germany uber eats has hired exactly zero drivers, they're all sub-subcontractors, which is major bs, and some parties are looking into forced employment for algorithmic workers
(though afaik uber the taxi company actually hires out taxi drivers and owns the cars, operating like a regular taxi company as they try and loosen regulations)
more power to the working class
