I have all of my main apps on my home screen, and then the rest of my apps are on the app screen in automatically sorted folders by type of app. I use smart launcher
@RecursiveParadox Absolutely no sorting into folders. Especially not manually sorting.
Back when Aviate! was an Android launcher, before it was acquired by Yahoo and then ruined, it did the most logical thing: auto-group apps by category, location based, messenger, games. Best of all, it did not change the home screen much. Swiped right it showed the (four? five? don't remember) most recently used app per square. All most recently used apps were always on the same screen, no opening of folders to see them, and always (after the swipe right) just a single tap to start the app. A tap on the category would open it to see others of the same category. With Aviate sorting manually was exposed as a total waste of time.
Today, Niagara Launcher "sorts" apps by the few favourites you define, and the rest is sorted by "the alphabet" with the side bar thing that zikzak025 shows. That too eliminates manual sorting, but I think folders are possible.
Home screen is a bunch of folders, but each folder is just apps with a particular colour of icon. Red folder, green folder, blue folder... Rainbow folder (that's mostly googly apps plus slack)
Because I don't easily remember apps by themes but I usually know the colour of the app I'm looking for. Super efficient
Everything is in folders in the menu
I've been using μLauncher (github) for probably 6 months or so on my Pixel 8a.
I like it. I like trying a bunch of different apps for different things so I do a lot of Favorites/App management daily. Its also just a nice minimalist launcher. I've recently started taking more advantage of all the gesture options to quickly open apps as well from the home screen.
Edit: Forgot to mention μLauncher doesn't show apps on the home screen. Instead you get the app drawer, a favorites "drawer" and a whole lotta gesture options you use from the home screen.
Yes
I use one main page with only the home row of 5 apps, and one other page to hold my calendar and budget widgets. I use the default app tray to open apps instead of scattering them across screens. Pixel 8 Graphene OS.
I've got 12 folders on my homescreen, but each of those can be swiped up, down, left or right to launch my most frequently used apps. I do have a second screen, but it's just used for a couple of calender widgets.

I haven't used my all apps screen in months. I just use a search based home screen. My home screen is just a clock and weather widget.
Kvaesitso
One page of favourites, then search-based for other apps.
I stg Kvaetsitso fixed my adhd /hj
Main screen: wallpaper, clock in the center and favorites at the bottom
Go right: search-based grid of all apps
Go down: mini weather ontop, Kvaetsitso notepad widget taking up the entire rest of the screen. The ability to be able to jot quick todos or notes without needing to open an app has been close to life changing for remembering to do things
Thanks!
I'm updating some of my layout now, based on your comment (c:
I use Niagara launcher, so all of my apps are in a single scrollable list.
This isn't a screenshot of my own phone, but this is essentially what it looks like. There's an A-Z list on the right that you can use to jump to a specific letter, or just scroll down the full list on the left. You can keep a small list of favorites at the top. It does support folders, but I don't use them.

Navigating to any app in Niagara is so fast. It keeps my home screen looking fresh and clean while also keeping every app within a couple seconds reach, no folders necessary. Honestly I feel like folders would just make it take longer.

I have everything in folders on my home screen, I don't like swiping

4 games folders is... impressive
I find it more practical to seperate by things you uses frequently vs things you use occasionally. Frequently used things get a place on the home page where it's easy to get to, everything else is dumped into a few broad catagories.
I have 4 folders, "stores(&bank stuff)" "games(&entertainment)" "utilities(&misc)" and "work".
It's all sorted alphabetical.
Folders for apps.I hate and can't get rid of. Screens for everything else. Android 10 Samsung has this horrible feature where every new app gets created on a new page at the end instead of filling the empty space on my previous 3 screens.
same here, it just puts it on the last page.
Pretty sure you can adb uninstall them
I use single screen and custom dock app. I don't like people seeing what apps I have and I like seeing my wallpaper.
Funny how everyone is different.
I don't have wall paper because I have zero reason to look at it and it gets in the way of my apps.
But I respect the keeping everything tidy. On my desktop computer I don't gave wallpaper, or folders, or apps.
I have my 15-ish most used apps on my home screen. Anything else I access through the main app list. No folders or anything. But I do try to keep the number of apps on my phone low. I refuse to install a dozen store-bound savings apps and all that crap. I prefer mobile sites over apps anyway so my adblocker functions.
I have three folders in the home screen so it can have Safari and look balanced. For apps not in the folders I use search.

Pretty neat but I'm not a fan of having to press twice to access messages.
Messages that matter generate notifications and I usually have Messages open in the background.
Neither - I use KISS, which means a click on the first letter of an app brings every app starting with it, ordered by frequent use. With 6 shortcuts at the bottom I'm good, never more than 2 clicks away from anything.
Kiss is great. I have the keyboard come up automatically and just type what I want to ooen
No folders. I gave up on that a long time ago. It is too much maintenance to organize everything and it doesn't really help you find things that much. I just scroll through the alphabetical drawer of all apps to find what I need.
Use Macrodroid's Drawer (slides out from left side) and Folders from Jina Drawer.
Jina can work with folders and tags to automatically sort apps.
But that's how my brain works, I need the structure to find stupid apps with terrible names.
Yeah, I use folders. Makes sense to me, but everyone’s different.
I only have 2 screens of apps.
First page (Main) is all the apps I use frequently. The most frequently used apps are in places where I can easily reach while one-handed.
Second page is apps that are used rarely. A lot of utilitity apps fall into this category.
I only have like 4 or five pages of apps. No much need in organizing them. I pretty much remember on which page the 4 apps are I regularly look for.
One screen of my most frequently used apps, no folders, and spotlight for everything else. It invariably surfaces whatever I’m looking for with just the first letter, so I don’t see the point in cluttering my phone with extra screens and folders.
Haven't thought about it but do both. Home screen is mostly for widgets. Left screen for social media and messaging without folders. Right screens have named folders with many apps I don't use often.
I only have widgets on my home screen, but only for stuff i deem important enough (Auxio, Breezy Weather & Clock). I have my important apps for which i don't have an appropriate (and fitting) widget (Signal, Element, Firefox, Obsidian) in my dock organized using folders based on category. In the app drawer i use Lawnchair's caddy layout, which sorts my apps based on their category. Despite this i mostly just use the search bar for looking for apps.
I find it far easier to swipe to themed screens, each with a combo of widgets and apps.
I have one folder for car parking apps and so on, which I use less often.
Anything I use less than once every couple of days, I simply remove from screen and use the global app menu. It's easier for me to go there and use the app search. Things I use frequently, I keep on a couple of screens. If there are many similar apps, I keep them in folders with auto-sorting by last used, for example, messengers, pay apps, etc. The rest is just on the screen.
