Imagine being at work, about to get put on a PIP, and you think now is the time to apply for a promotion.

Dude should have to blow a breathalyzer to log in at work as it is.

[-] CharlesDarwin@lemmy.world 6 points 13 hours ago

This asshole should be getting fitted for a prison jumpsuit.

[-] Zaktor@sopuli.xyz 25 points 23 hours ago

Any investigation is likely to involve the House Oversight Committee, the Judiciary Committee and the Armed Services Committee and could revolve around last year’s “Signalgate” scandal, in which Atlantic editor Jeffrey Goldberg was accidentally added to a group chat with senior Cabinet officials in which sensitive information was shared and discussed.

Clearly that is his greatest sin, not the extrajudicial executions of fishermen, the illegal war on Iran, or the ideological and prejudiced purges of the DoD. If he'd just had better opsec he'd be good.

[-] Notyou@sopuli.xyz 16 points 23 hours ago

Al Capone was taken down by Tax Evasion. You take the wins where you find them.

[-] Garbagio@lemmy.zip 9 points 22 hours ago

I'm sick and tired of this bullshit "factoid" Americans use to justify accepting fuck-ass outcomes. Capone served 8 years, and his criminal enterprise was even more violent and successful after he went away. If, and big fuckin if, Hegseth gets more than a slap on the wrist, he's going to get book deals and media appearances the rest of his life. What broke the actual criminal hold on Chicago wasn't "tax fraud," it was repealing prohibition. Almost like locking figureheads up does jack shit, and actually legislating away systemic issues does infinitely more. Go figure.

[-] Stormy@thelemmy.club 2 points 17 hours ago

Doesn't it suck? That's what we mean when we say the criminal justice system is broken. It's intentionally lenient on the worst people.

[-] Doomsider@lemmy.world 3 points 15 hours ago

These idiots forget the part where when you are kicked out of a government position for incompetence you are done not just changing roles.

[-] BarneyPiccolo@lemmy.today 5 points 17 hours ago

He thinks being in the Senate will save him? He'll be lucky if all he gets is a life sentence.

[-] ChunkMcHorkle@lemmy.world 4 points 14 hours ago* (last edited 14 hours ago)

Truth. I don't even foresee him surviving impeachment, and that's just in the very short term. That and EFTA II are what got the House sent home a day early, but they'll be back right after the midterms, and that impeachment is still on the House floor. It is privileged, meaning the House must take it up within two legislative days: that got paused when Johnson sent everyone home, but as soon as they return the clock is ticking again.

These are the articles of impeachment, and none of them are without truth. Any one of them can force his ass out as SecDef. From a more detailed article:

Article I: Charges that Hegseth waged war with Iran with no declaration of war, claiming it was unlawful since it began in February.

Article II: Points to the war powers resolutions that have been passed in both chambers of Congress that directed the removal of U.S. forces from Iran. Both the House and the Senate are expected to vote on another war powers resolution this week.

Article III: Similar to the first two articles, but goes further on the 60-day termination under the 1973 War Powers Resolution and charges Hegseth with blowing past “mandatory statutory deadlines as discretionary.” The war has continued for nearly seven months and has continued to escalate after a fragile ceasefire fell apart.

Article IV: Claims the secretary ignored “laws that minimize civilian casualties.”

Article V: Points to at least 221 deaths caused by “replacing maritime law enforcement with unauthorized lethal military targeting of suspected drug traffickers” after an operation that targeted alleged drug traffickers off the coast of South America earlier this year.

Article VI: Cites the administration’s high-profile feud over free speech after Sen. Mark Kelly (D-AZ) appeared in a video urging service members to refuse illegal orders. Hegseth called the video “seditious” and moved to strip Kelly of his rank and pension, though a court blocked the effort. The Pentagon appealed the block, with the D.C. Circuit Court of Appeals hearing oral arguments in May.

Article VII: Targets the capture of Maduro “without constitutional or legal authority.” Congressional Democrats and Republicans raised questions over the constitutionality of the raid and the implications around the world in briefings following the operation.

Article VIII: Claims strikes in Yemen also violated war powers reporting requirements, specifically pointing to civilian deaths.

life sentence

Libs are so silly, thinking the system would hold powerful people accountable like that. Of course that's not going to happen. The worst thing he'd possibly face is losing his job, and maybe a fine or something.

[-] BooBees@fedinsfw.app 78 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago)

He definitely wants to run for President in 32 against whatever dem takes President in 28.

Shut that shit down, Tennessee and/or Minnesota

I have family in Tennessee. They will absolutely not shut it down. They will pray for it to happen.

[-] mill_city@lemmy.zip 45 points 1 day ago

Hard to believe he'd have a shot in MN

[-] officermike@lemmy.world 29 points 1 day ago

He'd take a shot anywhere, as long as it comes with a testosterone chaser.

[-] PattyMcB@lemmy.world 17 points 1 day ago

What do Pete Hegseth and Katie Zacharia have in common?

Neither of them can pass a bar

[-] lightnsfw@reddthat.com 6 points 1 day ago

I've seen him lift. The testosterone isn't working.

[-] MintyFresh@lemmy.world 7 points 1 day ago

Jesse "the body" Ventura and Michele Bachmann would like a word.

Minnesota generally does okay, but there's a lot of idiot farmers out there frothing at the mouth to turn it red and dumb.

[-] JustPlainDave@lemmy.zip 13 points 1 day ago

Yeah, but Jesse Ventura has way more integrity than Hesgeth could even dream of having.

[-] BeMoreCareful@lemmy.world 5 points 1 day ago

Minnesota is Tennessee with a major metroplex.

[-] BooBees@fedinsfw.app 2 points 1 day ago

I mean it produced a hegseth

[-] decolo@piefed.social 8 points 1 day ago

I don't believe the US will exist in its current form at the end of 2028. He's New Texas' problem

[-] My_IFAKs___gone@lemmy.world 7 points 1 day ago

I believe the future name will be United America of America

[-] Catma@lemmy.world 4 points 1 day ago

~~United America of America~~

United Trump of Trump. Or Trumpistan

[-] arrow74@lemmy.zip 5 points 1 day ago

America America of America

[-] melsaskca@lemmy.ca 69 points 1 day ago

Don't most people everywhere, except those he has power over, think he's kind of an idiot goof?

[-] DokPsy@lemmy.world 56 points 1 day ago

Doesn't stop Cruz so

[-] MrEff@lemmy.world 15 points 1 day ago

Oh trust me, as someone who served and still has friends serving, most of them think he is an idiot too. He was kicked out at major for a reason. Even then, major is kind of the natural Peter Principle rank in the military and it takes more than fogging up a mirror to advanced past. He did not.

[-] phutatorius@lemmy.zip 8 points 1 day ago

It's the "those he has power over" part that makes him far worse than just an idiot goof. His imbecilic antics are getting people maimed and killed, destroying careers, and empowering the worst scum in our society.

[-] Stormy@thelemmy.club 7 points 17 hours ago

He absolutely ruined my career in the military, probably my life.

And even worse is i wasnt alone, and trump loyalists filled the slots near me and above. Its dog shit in there right now, blatant talking about politics and religion every day, its a mad house. Nothing like it should be.

[-] ChetManly@lemmy.world 23 points 1 day ago

He's going to be really off put by the fatties, beardos, and weirdos.

[-] phutatorius@lemmy.zip 32 points 1 day ago

He should be in a cell, not in public office. With no roids and no hair dye.

[-] NekoKoneko@lemmy.world 26 points 1 day ago

If "failing up" was a headline...

[-] 7U5K3N@lemmy.dbzer0.com 19 points 1 day ago

As a tennessean... Fuck Blackburn. She's not my senator. So the only time I've gotten to vote against her was for governor. Which I have.

[-] BeMoreCareful@lemmy.world 12 points 1 day ago

That's not how the Senate works?

[-] ayyy@sh.itjust.works 2 points 22 hours ago

Wait, the senate works?

[-] SnarkoPolo@lemmy.world 5 points 22 hours ago

One of those backward flyover states will probably buy his bullshit.

[-] dhork@lemmy.world 12 points 1 day ago

I would say that any timeline where Kegsbreath resigns is a good one, but if this happens, it will be because Democrats do win the Senate, and he will bail before the new Congress is seated so the current Republicans can ram through a replacement.

So I'm worried about what even bigger goober might get the job

[-] ThePantser@sh.itjust.works 9 points 1 day ago

The guy who perpetually looks terrified trying to direct the military would be comical for sure

[-] phutatorius@lemmy.zip 3 points 1 day ago
[-] SaveTheTuaHawk@lemmy.ca 2 points 23 hours ago

The guy who told us to shove corn cobs up our asses during lockdown? Should I have taken mine out by now?

[-] CharlesDarwin@lemmy.world 1 points 13 hours ago
[-] kreskin@lemmy.world 3 points 22 hours ago

It'll be interesting to see if they can just engineer a seat to come to him. If they can, our democracy is even more broken than we thought.

[-] zd9@lemmy.world 3 points 22 hours ago

Hell they are engineering the SC seat for Lindsey Graham's sister. It's like the chairman of the board's daughter in 30 Rock, just complete idiot but still installed in that role due to family.
