If a trans and/or gay character in a story can turn your kids trans and/or gay, then why isn't literally every person cis and straight?

[-] Xerxos@lemmy.ml 6 points 6 days ago

Most people are aware that sexuality is not a choice (I mean, who would choose to be LGBTQ+ in a society that treats them so badly?).

So, why would they accuse books of turning someone gay? Because it shows the reader that they don't have to hide who they are. That's it. They are afraid that their children won't suppress their sexuality and suffer in silence like a 'good' Christian, Muslim, or whatever religious person should.

So, I've heard all about potter "turning the kids to satinists", but what book is "turning the kids trans"?

I am looking for new books to read

I know a few books that turn people into complete assholes. They all talk of a magical man in the sky.

Why am I not a lowly worm flying an apple helicopter?

Well, that's simple. You're the helicopter. /j

After you lay off the junk food and eat a nice green leaf. And get a good night's sleep for once.

[-] joyjoy@piefed.social 16 points 1 week ago

A good night's sleep? I don't know, sounds kind of gay.

If you told me this was something Andrew Tate has said in the past year, I wouldn't even question it.

[-] jdr@lemmy.ml 12 points 1 week ago

Should've put two spoiler tags for that doozie

[-] tacosanonymous@lemmy.blahaj.zone 17 points 1 week ago

I am somehow not a space captain nor a magical girl.

[-] jupyter_rain@discuss.tchncs.de 4 points 1 week ago

But maybe a cat fighting wars? A dragon riding kid?

[-] socsa@piefed.social 15 points 1 week ago

Honesty now I am curious if a book called "This book will make you kid trans" would sell as a gag gift.

[-] kofe@lemmy.world 1 points 6 days ago

Honestly how would it not

I am very hungry, but I don't think I could justify calling myself a caterpillar.

[-] eestileib@sh.itjust.works 11 points 1 week ago

Why am I not a brown bear just chilling out looking at shit?

I need answers.

[-] I_Fart_Glitter@lemmy.world 5 points 6 days ago

God I wish I was a toad with an adventurous frog friend who gently encourages me out of the house.

[-] BarneyPiccolo@lemmy.today 9 points 1 week ago

I'm pretty hungry, though.

[-] PotatoesFall@discuss.tchncs.de 2 points 6 days ago

My body's looking increasingly worm-like, too

[-] ThePJN@sopuli.xyz 6 points 1 week ago

I am in fact a stinky cheese man though. Who do I blame for that?

My kid cut off my arms to build a house after reading The Giving Tree. Checkmate, libs!

[-] BeMoreCareful@lemmy.world 4 points 1 week ago

I can trace a lot of the major changes in my life to books. Read banned books.

[-] Thorry@feddit.org 3 points 1 week ago

On the other hand, I do feel like I connect to Mr. Bucket on a spiritual level.

[-] AdolfSchmitler@lemmy.world 3 points 1 week ago

I doubt they could even explain that book

[-] BenevolentOne@infosec.pub 2 points 1 week ago

It's only a problem for people who always do what they're told.
