I thought his brain was just so addled that he fucked his speech up. He tried to say the Muslim Brotherhood caused all Muslims to stop contributing to society. He's mentally ill and racist, basically.

[-] ArmchairAce1944@lemmy.ca 1 points 13 hours ago

Racist for sure. But do not excuse his behavior as 'mentally Ill' he knows EXACTLY what he is doing.

Heroin Bobby with the Grandpa Joe aura

[-] Sam_Bass@lemmy.world 9 points 22 hours ago

he doesnt either. he parrots conspiracies that have been scientifically proven false

[-] grepe@lemmy.world 4 points 22 hours ago

i object to your use of the word "either". that gives him too much credibility.

[-] mad_lentil@lemmy.ca 7 points 21 hours ago

Even if this total lie were somehow true, that there was something about Arab culture or Semitic people that magically made them unable to "produce culture" uhhh they're still people?? Like they deserve exactly as much dignity and respect as any other people.

But it's also obviously a stupid racist lie.

[-] AAA@feddit.org 4 points 19 hours ago

I don't see Robert F Kennedy Junior producing science or literature either.

[-] AA5B@lemmy.world 4 points 20 hours ago

Something, something …. He must not have learned Arabic numbers in school

[-] theacharnian@lemmy.ca 3 points 20 hours ago

Folks there really is no reason to go all the way back to the Islamic Golden Age to disprove this fool. There are many many Arab scientists and writers alive and kicking at this moment right now.

He is recycling the same islamophobic shit that flooded the internet in the two years after 9/11. The arguments are 100% 2001-2003 era.

[-] boonhet@sopuli.xyz 12 points 1 day ago

And to better sell this idea of Arabs not producing science or literature, let us ban algebra and algorithms so people don't think of those things ever.

[-] Jankatarch@lemmy.world 3 points 22 hours ago* (last edited 22 hours ago)

And also ...capitalism?

Early forms of capitalism are thought to have been developed in the Islamic Golden Age starting from the 9th century, and later became dominant in European Muslim territories like Al-Andalus and the Emirate of Sicily. The Islamic economic concepts taken and applied by the gunpowder empires and various Islamic kingdoms and sultanates led to systemic changes in their economy, particularly in the Mughal Empire. Bengal, a major trading nation of the medieval world, signaled the period of proto-industrialization making direct contribution to the world's first Industrial Revolution after the British conquests.

(I do know Islam ≠ Arab but a lot of key researchers and their peers were Arab)

[-] ghurab@lemmy.world 2 points 1 day ago

Al-khwarizmi was not Arab tho.

[-] Felis_Catus_Domesticus@lemmy.world 1 points 21 hours ago* (last edited 21 hours ago)

Arab ≠ Islamic Not always.

Many non-Arab peoples also adopted Islam.

Be sure to read the fine print when reading about history..

Yes because A Thousand and One Nights and the works of the Arab alchemists that were critical to the foundation of modern chemistry is all fake. /s

[-] hasnt_seen_goonies@lemmy.world 2 points 22 hours ago

Your point still stands, but this is probably a bad example. Many of the stories from A Thousand and One Nights were written by European authors to keep up the sales when they ran out of the originals. Many of the ones we know today were not written outside of europe.

[-] Jankatarch@lemmy.world 1 points 23 hours ago

Or like half the anti-colonial literature in 19th and 20th centuries... /s

[-] Itdidnttrickledown@lemmy.world 6 points 1 day ago

What kind of numbers will we use if we want to express in writing a number of how many times this asshole has been wrong. Beware the number is probably not gonna be high enough.

[-] 01011@monero.town 14 points 1 day ago

Being a white supremacist typically entails having a poor grasp of recorded history.

[-] nomy@lemmy.zip 3 points 22 hours ago

You could even say ignorance is a prerequisite.

This headline legitimate made me laugh out loud

[-] LadyButterfly@reddthat.com 3 points 23 hours ago

The sad thing is he could be surrounded by people that tell him "you're right sir! They just sit in caves with towels on their head and plan jihads!"

[-] 0tan0d@lemmy.world 5 points 1 day ago

The fact the average conservative can see and even hear this and say its not racist shows how silly the average centrist is for trying to meet them in the middle.

[-] phutatorius@lemmy.zip 3 points 1 day ago

"Arab is not a race!!"

As if there's such a thing as race.

[-] phutatorius@lemmy.zip 4 points 1 day ago

Yeah, unlike quacks, grifters and con artists who make up their own awards.

[-] CrabAndBroom@lemmy.ml 4 points 22 hours ago

[-] atomo@lemmy.world 2 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago)

Odd thing to say, as the religion these people claim to follow (and the "book" attached to it) is a reworked and simplified (i.e. monotheistic) believe system started in what is now Iran and Iraq. And if it wasn't for "Arab" maps and maritime science, Europeans would never been able to start their colonial sea expansion and, subsequently, the great-great-great parents of this scum would have reach the Americas ... just saying.

[-] barkas@lemmy.zip 2 points 1 day ago

That’s an interesting topic, separate from the MainTopic (RFK is an absolute idiot). I’d push back on the idea that Portuguese and Spanish exploration was fundamentally based on Arab teachings: they drew on knowledge from many sources and developed their own navigation practices. Still, Arabic-speaking scholars helped preserve, develop, and transmit important astronomy and mathematics that influenced Europe.

Likewise, Islam emerged in a late-antique world shaped by Judaism and Christianity, among other traditions.

I mean Abdul Alhazred wrote the Necronomicon, which I consider to be both science and literature.
