โ€œ-aiโ€

Every search, every time.

[-] heartSagan5@lemmy.zip 12 points 8 hours ago

Eh, just use noai.duckduckgo.com

[-] AHemlocksLie@lemmy.zip 8 points 8 hours ago

Nah, I just let them burn their money for absolutely nothing while I ignore it. Eeeevery once in a while, when I'm having shit luck finding what I want, I might check the sources on the AI bullshit, but I never actually listen to the AI.

[-] explodicle@sh.itjust.works 1 points 1 hour ago

They're burning more of our wealth than their own.

[-] bonesawmcl@lemmy.world 15 points 11 hours ago
[-] TryingToBeGood@reddthat.com 5 points 10 hours ago

Yup, I use that too ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿฆ†

[-] Peppycito@sh.itjust.works 4 points 8 hours ago

You can put 'fuck' in the search and you don't get an overview.

[-] paraproto@szmer.info 4 points 6 hours ago

Don't put the word in if you are searching for a kindergarten.

[-] moonshadow@sh.itjust.works 8 points 9 hours ago

Hot take: this is their plan to choke out smaller publishers who can't afford to just eat these losses. Once there's no more real alternatives they'll start to squeeze

[-] JcbAzPx@lemmy.world 4 points 5 hours ago

For that to work, they'd have to be a viable choice in the first place.

[-] moonshadow@sh.itjust.works 4 points 1 hour ago

Only choice, viable choice, what's the difference?

[-] explodicle@sh.itjust.works 3 points 1 hour ago

Once it gets really bad, it'll be easier to just stop using search engines and go back to web rings.

[-] lightnsfw@reddthat.com 9 points 10 hours ago

Maybe if it's ai mode could provide accurate information it would be better.

[-] victorz@lemmy.world 11 points 12 hours ago

Oh no, if only someone would have know this would happen in advance, like, anyone at all, like literally any dumdum you'd ask, for example. Oh no...

[-] desmosthenes@lemmy.world 19 points 13 hours ago* (last edited 13 hours ago)

get ready for ads in ai answers; the cycle of enshittification must go on to satisfy the shareholders

[-] ExLisper@lemmy.curiana.net 8 points 11 hours ago

They already do it. They already recommend products in the AI results.

[-] canttakeitwithyou@lemmy.zip 25 points 15 hours ago

This is almost correct. In reality, rich people inside Google got richer. That was their sole goal. That is all they wanted.

Because look, we all told everyone that the AI bubble was in fact a bubble, and that Google was destroying its own search engine, which of course would hurt them later. On the one hand, you could argue they didn't believe us. But I think they didn't hedge their bets because they didn't care either way.

Fuck the company's future if you can get rich now, am I right? Never underestimate human greed.

[-] ExLisper@lemmy.curiana.net 7 points 11 hours ago

Bing Bing! Bing! This is the correct answer.

Everyone was hyping AI, the stock went up, they got richer. They push AI search to inflate the bubble. They will not lose a cent when it all collapses. They will buy more stock and get even richer eventually.

[-] evike@feddit.uk 6 points 5 hours ago

Bing Bing! Bing!

Calm down, Steve Balmer!

[-] AAA@feddit.org 3 points 13 hours ago

Fuck the company's future if you can get rich now, am I right? Never underestimate human greed.

Always funny to see managers have the "fuck it" mindset, which they hate so much in their employees.

Except they are paid to do exactly that: care about the company and it's future.

[-] Tollana1234567@lemmy.today 16 points 18 hours ago* (last edited 18 hours ago)

they freaked out after they couldnt scrape more data from reddit, because they wernt producing anymore, because reddit is infested with AI BOTs, and regular spammers. actual users who generated content have long banned or lurking now.

[-] AHemlocksLie@lemmy.zip 6 points 8 hours ago

Don't worry, Reddit has their top people on the job to fix it, and in a stroke of brilliance, they're going to *checks notes* ...requiring everyone to login even to view?

Yeah, this Ouroboros is about to choke to death on itself.

[-] Jankatarch@lemmy.world 33 points 21 hours ago* (last edited 21 hours ago)

Will magically undo itself somehow in a week but still fun to look at for now.

Google or Alphabet stock falling down 10% overnight

[-] AdolfSchmitler@lemmy.world 95 points 1 day ago

You know, for a moment I thought i was going to get sick of all the "AI blew up in this company's face" headlines, but I dont think i will.

[-] pinball_wizard@lemmy.zip 28 points 23 hours ago

They're like popcorn. Every kernel is buttery goodness.

[-] Trigger2_2000@sh.itjust.works 19 points 23 hours ago

There are two wolfs inside of me:

I want to use Google's AI as much as absolutely possible - in order to cost them as much as possible.

I want to protect the enviroment as much as possible - and using AI (especially when you don't want to) still costs the enviroment.

So . . . I'll give into . . . Wile E. Coyote and just do something stupid.

Google spent decades telling publishers to create quality content, then built a machine to read it aloud without sending anyone to the source. Now it's shocked that the machine makes less money. Congratulations: they've invented a search engine that eats both its suppliers and its own business model.

[-] aim4harmony@lemmy.world 34 points 1 day ago

Lol AI eating and leaving no crumbs. Slurping on anything it can vaccuum in.

Turns out reducing peoples expose to their core advertisement business while burning millions of tokens to produce a summary, not the best business decision they have ever made. But what do you expect of MBA's that praise Jack Welch like a God.

[-] LewdLemon@sh.itjust.works 96 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago)

Here's the updated scoreboard of AI-pilled promises - and what became of them:

  1. AI is going to ~~make~~ cost big money for AI-first companies.
  2. AI is going to make employees ~~more productive~~ wade through tons of generated slop instead of doing actual work.
  3. AI is going to ~~solve all of humanity's problems - cancer, global warming, all that jazz!~~ exacerbate humanity's problems by gobbling up resources on an unprecedented scale.
[-] Tollana1234567@lemmy.today 7 points 18 hours ago
  1. causing massive enviromental harm, and also mass surveillance.
[-] ikirin@feddit.org 28 points 1 day ago

I'm a big AI hater and just can't wait until this is all over. However, I've seen colleagues use the slop machine to just make shit they'd have skipped otherwise. Like using it to do TDD, provide the tests and then do the actual fun work - write proper good code.

But also if AI vanished tomorrow I'd be so happy and would not cry a single tear for it.

[-] deliriousdreams@fedia.io 22 points 1 day ago

I'm not expecting AI to go away. I'm hoping the bubble pop will remove AI from a lot of markets that shouldn't be using it because it was shoehorned in so they could figure out uses for it. The test bench use makes sense to me. I can see how that could be beneficial to generate. In this case the people using those AI generated tests are still coding and their skills will remain sharp.

But it just doesn't work for a lot of stuff people are trying to use it for. Consumer tech is one of those things and I actively hate it.

[-] Seralth@piefed.seralth.com 9 points 21 hours ago

Yeah for every 1 good use of ai that makes sense corpos are shoving it in 9 that don't make sense.

Ai can be useful and fine. But not so long as the corpos are shoving it into everything everywhere all of the time.

[-] LewdLemon@sh.itjust.works 2 points 14 hours ago* (last edited 14 hours ago)

Word! LLMs can be a useful tool, but every tool has its purpose. A hammer is great for - well, hammering stuff. What corporate "leadership" has done - drunk on the koolaid given to them by hammer salesmen - was to mandate that everyone must do their work with a hammer now. And now they're bamboozled why so many people are getting hurt and inventory, somehow, always looks like it was smashed to bits. (Maybe we need to do just a smidge more hammering to get there?)

[-] heavy@sh.itjust.works 13 points 23 hours ago

They're just going to be a front page of ads now.

They got what they deserved. Taking into consideration that Chinese AI companies are loosing heavily in the stock market - I am certain that it is time for the US as well. I bet that within two weeks from US elections AI companies will be at least 20-30% lower than today.

I'm worried this is the beginning of the pop

[-] NekoKoneko@lemmy.world 26 points 23 hours ago* (last edited 23 hours ago)

It can't come soon enough. See this Reuters story about China's bubble popping:

https://www.reuters.com/world/china/china-ai-bubble-has-already-burst-2026-10-26/

The longer we wait, the more catastrophic and destabilizing the pop will be.

That said, despite Google's massive stock drop, I don't think we're there yet in the US. Google never expected the AI Overview to be a money maker. They just needed it to answer users' questions more readily than a trip to ChatGPT or Claude. And they probably count that as a success. To Google, they are more than willing to cannibalize their own ad revenue if it means having the largest seat at the trough for AI later, because they think it will be a single funnel to capture all revenue for practically every industry.

So AI has become an almost mythical final form of capitalistic value capture. It's like a poker game and every tech giant just continues to raise the bet because even if they're bluffing, they think whoever holds out longest wins all the money. They're still in that mindset. But in fact, AI is more like a poker game where to play, you incinerate your bet in a burning dumpster in the middle. That's the thing that, once they realize it, will cause the bubble to pop.

Not there yet, unfortunately.

[-] Glowstick@lemmy.world 26 points 1 day ago

Worried that it's about to start? If it's gonna pop at some point then the sooner the better.
