“I’ve made clear from the very beginning that our top priority is going to be to drive down the high cost of living,” the House minority leader said on Fox News Sunday.

It's not about getting even, though that is a nice fringe benefit. It is about holding criminals to account and not letting it be seen that they can just skate away scot free without paying for their crimes.

[-] HK65@sopuli.xyz 11 points 2 days ago

Hungarian here, we had an election in April, we now have 2 ministers, and a central bank chief in custody, with the son of said central banker also having an international arrest warrant out for him. And we're not done, not by far.

And we have a better democracy than we had before. Prosecution of criminals is part of democracy.

[-] kreskin@lemmy.world 16 points 2 days ago

Conducting checks and balances is literally his effing job. Bro doesnt even understand what his job is.

[-] lemmy_outta_here@lemmy.world 11 points 2 days ago

Alright, y'all have to fire this loser.

Your country went to the brink of authoritarian dictatorship; on Tuesday, it crept back one sixteenth of an inch from the precipice. Prosecuting every motherfucker who broke the law in Trump's administration should be priorities 1, 2, and 3. Brazil put their Trump in jail after their January 6. Maybe they could give your politicians some democracy lessons.

[-] Tenthrow@lemmy.world 330 points 4 days ago

Holding criminals liable for their criminal activity is not "getting even".

[-] tburkhol@lemmy.world 45 points 4 days ago

Impeaching Trump won't do that. I mean, with a Dem-led senate, there would at least be a trial, but they'd need at least 10 GOP senators to remove, and that won't happen.

Impeaching Hegseth? Clarence Thomas? Aileen Cannon? Go for it. Still probably won't happen, but those are all people more vulnerable to the shame of impeachment. They might even resign.

There's a lot of criminal activity to expose among people who can actually be indicted and convicted. People who might testify after Trump's get-out-of-trial-free card expires, but most importantly, people who can now be made to stop hurting the country.

I'd still rather see them use War Powers over Iran and close ICE concentration camps than put Elon Musk in jail, if it came down to a choice, but I think they can do all three.

[-] wonderingwanderer@sopuli.xyz 35 points 4 days ago

I think enough republicans are seeing the writing on the wall that getting ten of them to side with Dems on impeachment/removal might not be entirely outside of the realm of possibility...

New speaker of the house now!!!! Schumer and Jeffries helped lead us into all this.

[-] Corkyskog@sh.itjust.works 19 points 3 days ago* (last edited 3 days ago)

There is a petition with half a million signatures on Change.org if people want to sign. I know it probably won't do much, but it might feel more cathartic than dooming on Lemmy. https://www.change.org/p/house-democrats-choose-a-new-speaker

Or better yet, call your representatives and tell them you will primary them in the next cycle if they vote for Schumer or Jeffries for Majority Speakers.

[-] sportsjorts@lemmy.zip 9 points 3 days ago

Thank you! This is much better than yelling into the Lemmy void!

[-] Adderbox76@lemmy.ca 23 points 2 days ago

Have voters not made it clear enough that YOU don't get to decide what is or isn't a priority...they do.

The entire election was about Republicans doing whatever they wanted regardless of the wishes of their electorate. You sure you want to burn down that same bridge, Hakeem...?

[-] cantstopthesignal@sh.itjust.works 10 points 2 days ago

Call your rep and tell them not to vote for Jeffries. I think this election ought to scare the shit out of everyone who isn't a progressive that they are on the hot seat to actually fucking do something.

Justice must be served. It's paramount that we set an example or it's going to happen again and be even worse.

[-] Bwaz@lemmy.world 20 points 3 days ago

replace this milquetoast

[-] Jaysyn@lemmy.world 29 points 3 days ago

Jeffries is going to purposefully rehash his Biden years, just like his Israeli paymasters want.

[-] bertlewirth@lemy.lol 58 points 3 days ago

Wow. The dems have won mere days ago, and hakeem is already caving to the gop

[-] leftist_lawyer@lemmy.today 7 points 2 days ago

Impeach that zionist traitor

[-] Gammelfisch@lemmy.world 12 points 2 days ago

I get it Jeffries, but their is something called "the law." The price hikes are due to those Orange Shitstains breaking multiple laws.

[-] tacoplease@lemmy.world 44 points 3 days ago

Hakeem, it's called multitasking, like when you take AIPAC and corporate money at the same time. Do both you fuckwad.

[-] explodicle@sh.itjust.works 16 points 3 days ago

Why does this dipshit think the gas is expensive all of a sudden

[-] ContactClosure@lemmus.org 66 points 3 days ago

Then finding a new speaker of the house is a priority you useless turd.

[-] inclementimmigrant@lemmy.world 85 points 4 days ago* (last edited 3 days ago)

Just more pathetic leadership from Democrats.

Just like with Chuck Shumer's no energy, no plan speech, this Chucklefuck doesn't lay out a single concrete item he and his centrist buddies would do to lower anything for the American people.

Polls show that American voters were concerned with the economy and DEMOCRACY as the two major points in the election. That includes holding Trump AND his Republicans to account.

I expected nothing more from these worthless neo-liberals and they can just Chuck off along with the Baileys.

[-] yakko@feddit.uk 45 points 4 days ago

Getting rid of Jeffries is such a massive priority at this point. Where can pressure be applied?

[-] inclementimmigrant@lemmy.world 27 points 4 days ago

Call, don't email or write, your local congress person and respectfully state you sorely disappointed in the current leadership's refusal to hold Trump and his Republican enablers to account for his XXX actions. With XXX being specific items like ICE operating outside the bounds of their judicial capacity and murdering civilians or his abuse of power with the Iran war or him pooping his pants on TV.

[-] kingkong@lemmy.world 5 points 2 days ago

um he can leave then impeach this joker

[-] Corkyskog@sh.itjust.works 13 points 3 days ago* (last edited 3 days ago)

Or call, don't email, don't write, call your newly elected representative you voted for and ask them to stand up for new leadership. That's a fuck ton better than signing some internet petition that no one gives two shits about and better than bitching on social media that no one really gives two shits about.

Its not about "getting even", its about ensuring these people don't have an ounce of political power going forward. We cannot allow them back in government.

If he phrased this as "affordability is my priority, and I'm not ruling out that the way to assure that is to impeach the President and his cabinet," he could have plausible deniability. But as it is, he's clearly listening to the wrong political operatives.

[-] ReluctantlyZen@ani.social 8 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago)

Going back to politics as usual is what they did when Biden got elected and look where that got them. This time MAGA's done way more criminal shit. They need to be held accountable to kick their fascism to the curb, also for the sake of the rest of the world.

[-] Radical_Socialist_t00t@lemmy.ca 29 points 3 days ago

Consequences for whats been done IS THE ONLY reason this blue "wave" happened.

[-] heavy@sh.itjust.works 27 points 3 days ago

Get even? It's about applying the law and justice system to everyone equally.

[-] ZILtoid1991@lemmy.world 3 points 2 days ago

I think it's time to impeach Hakeem Jeffries...

[-] makeshift0546@lemmy.today 43 points 3 days ago

Jeffries can go fuck himself. I want literal trail and hanging.

[-] Loce@lemmy.world 4 points 2 days ago

That is why he has to go

[-] fritobugger2017@lemmy.world 25 points 3 days ago

He needs to fuck right off.

[-] rusty_biteman@sh.itjust.works 25 points 3 days ago

I want every single ICE agent to spend the rest of their lives running on a hamster wheel for 16 hours a day to generate free electricity for the grid more than I want to be able to afford food again

[-] Microtonal_Banana@lemmy.zip 31 points 3 days ago

Get ready for a whole lot of nothing (at best) from these creeps.

[-] stumu415@lemmy.zip 20 points 3 days ago

They are both beholden to Israël and Israeli funds. They have no interest in doing the bidding for the American people, never have.

They need to be replaced by people with morals and who cannot being bought cheaply by an authoritarian regime that promotes genocide.
