Welcome to today’s daily kōrero!

Anyone can make the thread, first in first served. If you are here on a day and there’s no daily thread, feel free to create it!

Anyway, it’s just a chance to talk about your day, what you have planned, what you have done, etc.

So, how’s it going?

It's been a bit quiet around here lately. Anyone done anything interesting? Had a sweet holiday?

I'm heading back to work on Tuesday, so still a couple more days in holiday mode. Have been hanging out with family who have been down visiting.

Last night we played a 4 player game of the board game Pandemic, and got smashed in the novice difficulty. My wife and I are used to two player and it got a bit trickier in 4 player (or we probably didn't think it through enough and just went for a two player strategy).

Wife is taking the kids to visit her family for about 5 days, I finally get some free time to do whatever I want!

I really need to sort out the garage and sell some of my old tools. Trying to reclaim some space and organise a little better.

Hopefully you get to do something for yourself that sounds less like a chore 😆

You know you're getting older when tidying up feels fun and satisfying 😅

First time we played Pandemic we thought we had to cure all diseases, turns out you only need to find the four antidotes. Then it became a lot easier.

And, yes, I also noticed it becomes more quiet here. I'm still casually browsing Reddit and it's still as active as it was before all the protests. I hate the app and website though, I miss Baconreader. It seems more negative though.

It's not really that surprising that it's quieter here. It was always quieter on the weekends than during the week, and the holiday break is a bit like an extended weekend for many people. I've personally been pretty busy with everyone around so not much time for doom scrolling.

One kid in holiday in Malaysia, Singapore, then Thailand until end January. One kid away camping until mid January. Just me and wifey since Christmas eve.

IT'S BLOODY AMAZING.

It sounds it! We this last year had a couple of nights (at different times) with no kids for the first time since the eldest was born. We didn't know what to do with ourselves!

Playing Pandemic 2 player but with 2 characters each is our go to. It really turns into a coop 4 turn round as you start thinking about what all the agents can do.

Ah, interesting! So you play it with two pawns but with two roles (special abilities) each? Or play as if it's a four player game with four pawns, but you play two different people and do the full turn sequence for each?

[–] Munkisquisher 2 points 10 months ago (1 children)

Play it like a 4 player game, so 4 full turn sequences. To me it seems like having 4 special abilities is where the game is at it's best.

Ah OK, we will have to try that some time! Definitely before we try to rope in new players and mess up the strategy again 😆

Still very much in the close family member heart attack aftermath.

Meanwhile MSD has cut off my disability allowance due to some kind of clerical error at their end, and yesterday their phone claimed it has a 70 minute wait time but then after it gets your date of birth it just cuts you off saying the call cannot be completed due to caller volume. Their "myMSD" website isn't responding either.

It's super stressful because we really need to stay here right now to support whanau. Reminds me of Brazil the movie but luckily they don't come through the ceiling and take anyone away.

There are some super cute chickens here. My partner prepares food on the veranda of our sleepout so the chickens are very interested. It feels like being on safari only with much shorter animals.

[–] ColonialSpore 3 points 10 months ago

Oh man. You have my sympathies. I hope things work out soon.

[–] Dave 3 points 10 months ago (1 children)

Man, MSD always gives the worst Christmas presents 🙁

[–] liv 3 points 10 months ago

Totally. I don't know why they always do weird stuff to us right at Christmas when they are short staffed.

On the plus side some brand new chickens hatched so there are tiny cheeping chicks here now, super cute.
