This will prevent the usual de-duplication of the posts, thereby preventing the biggest post from cannibalizing the upvotes from the rest

0.19.4 is annoying since it adds the hashtag additions where posts are auto hashtagged with the community name. I was aiming to Ideally remove that from the codebase before we upgrade but we might have to upgrade with that in it
is the feature that bad? I haven't heard complaints about it, seems cool to me

That would make community names a bit longer so they'd be more annoying to type and share?
I do think there could be some features added to help avoid full defederation. Like if instance admins could set a default list of banned instances, and the users could choose to unban those instances for themselves. Of course defederation could still be necessary sometimes like for illegal content, software bugs, or malicious attacks.
Your feed depends on which instances yours is federated with. So you either deal with the fact that you won’t get content that you’d otherwise want, or you register into multiple instances to check multiple, partially overlapping feeds. One by one.
I think soon you'll be able to block all the users of an instance but still see the communities from that instance, but yea instance admins should be able to separately choose to defederate the users or the communities
storage issues (raising the requirements for people to create their own instances), and it’s a big liability (cue to CP being posted to LW, and every single admin team removing it from their own instances).
I believe v0.19.0 has the option to disable storing remote images and instead proxy them on demand (I think the proxy might also have a temporary cache to help)
I think scaled sort and instance blocking are the biggest new features, lots of little tweaks and bug fixes too
