Maybe this goes against the prevailing internet sentiment, but as someone who enjoyed Barbarian and really enjoyed Weapons, I'm excited for this film and I think Cregger can deliver. Maybe I'm in the minority... but I don't need to see Leon Kennedy or Claire Redfield in a movie parrying a chainsaw with a hand axe in order to enjoy myself. Video game characters are notoriously shallow and one dimensional for a reason- we're supposed to fill them in with our own experiences as we, you know, play the game. It's a different medium than film.
What I would like is a zombie horror film that can stand on its own and be good in general. Does it take place in Raccoon City? Great. Does it have some nods to the games, inside jokes, easter eggs? Great, love that. Does it have Leon Kennedy? I don't care. I really don't. The coolest part of Resident Evil has never been the main characters. They're practically cardboard cutouts. The coolest part of Resident Evil is cramped hallways, a lack of ammo, bizarre mutated monsters, social commentary on corporate corruption, etc.
Just give me a good horror movie first. The rest is secondary.
I think you'll find that many Americans see this as the last bit of faith in the system they have left. If it gets pulled out of their hands, you're going to see a very different type of American.
I want to agree, but I think the sentiment holds less water than it used to. "It's GTA" doesn't mean what it may have ten years ago. Tons of franchises have released subpar games on the backs of their reputation, especially in the last decade. While highly anticipated, GTA6 game is still just another open world video game in 2026. It uses the same conventions as most other games which have caught up to, and use, Rockstar's formula. The problem with a new GTA game is that 5 capitalized on all of the systems Rockstar had implemented up to that point and it felt fresh and unique because when GTA5 came out, open world games hadn't been completely rinsed yet.
Since then, plenty of game companies have caught up, and the gap has closed in terms of what is possible. We also have been inundated with hundreds of open world games since then.
While I'm sure we can expect it to do what we want it to do, I doubt this game is going to be so much more mind-blowing than the other great launches we've had in the past few years that it will justify being almost double the price. I think that when it comes to modern gaming, especially during times of great hype, it is far better to hold back until release for that reason alone. Considering this game is going to be available for another decade at least, it's fine to wait a couple of weeks to see how things pan out rather than committing to a $100 pre-order.

One thing to remember is that, even now, we live in a gerontocracy. The wave of younger candidates winning in primaries is a sign of things to come, but more than the voting population shifting to younger people, we're still waiting for the candidates and politicians themselves to be younger on average. Still so many very old people in the US senate/house.
The real standout aspect of these cards is just how awesome the art is. I was yearning for some of that "old school" magic art, and while some of these obviously look more modern, there are some very cool pieces in here as well.
Personal Standouts: Uugguu, Meatsqueak, Matoc, Boss Uramon, Kuroki, Ethki, and Yume.
I love this movie for many reasons, but the top reason is that it's simply beautiful to look at. Laika's innovation in stop-motion is still inspiring 10 years out.
