I see nothing wrong with it personally /shrug
someone who knows everything about you can easily manipulate or even blackmail you
To that end, the ability for people to not only fabricate completely new evidence, but also manipulate existing evidence, I think deserves a lot more attention.
For example, imagine the damage someone can do simply by taking leaked corporate data and slightly messing with it. Who second-guesses the accuracy of leaked data?
the “nothing to hide” argument implies that if you want to keep certain aspects of your life private (i.e., hidden), you must have done something wrong
What has also become more sinister as of late is that the definition of "wrong" can change at the whim of whoever is running your government right now.
Protip: Run a socks5h proxy server on the pi that does not use its own DNS resolver. Then FoxyProxy on your browser with the default being off/direct. Then whenever you need it, switch that one tab to use the proxy to bypass your blocking.
why now all of a sudden
It's not new though, it has been happening for years. Selection bias might be skewing your view.
Bus 001 Device 059: ID 05ba:000a DigitalPersona, Inc. Fingerprint Reader
It shows up exactly the same for all the revisions though.
Does "for the government" also include software used by the government?
No CJK support... very sad.
Is this impossible due to Matrix’s design, or is it poor moderation from server admins?
Kinda both. The design does not inherently destroy rooms permanently afaik, and server moderators don't do enough to prune bad things either way. It's a never-ending game of whack-a-mole. People have also been (ab)using its file upload capabilities to use matrix as a global, free, unlimited CDN, sometimes even for completely (to normal users) hidden content using custom message types hiding in plain sight.
it's compromised (explicitly part of PRISM). nice try FBI shill

dgVoodoo2 has worked fine for me for years for DX7 and earlier on wine. lutris already supports it natively.
Or if a VM is needed, qemu+softgpu has been much faster for me than pcem/86box.
