I'm having the exact same experience right now. I had to quit my last job in consulting due to severe health issues due to untreated narcolepsy. I'm now working part time at a coffee shop and it's amazing how rewarding work can be when 1. You actually get training because a consistent quality product is important when you're literally feeding people and 2. As you said the work is easily quantifiable and rewarded so the whole job isn't BSing your bosses and clients into giving you more money, which I've always struggled with... like morally. I don't know about you, but for me, the perfect job would be part time entry level unskilled job and part time career job (or self employment). I think that would be most fulfilling.

I think our impeachment mechanism for removing someone from power isn't enough to prevent a dictatorship (or even fraud in the case of Santos and Fetterman). You just explained the connotation and presented it as a difference in definition, but an ultimatum is just attaching consequences to a "hard boundary" or "deal-breaker." Usually, the consequence is just walking away from the relationship. I know in real life it often does turn abusive, and you can have an abusive ultimatum, "have sex with me or I will hurt you," but it's not inherently abusive.

Even your examples are ultimatums but said more kindly.

The boundary is "being in a relationship with someone who plays video games so much" and, assuming the status quo is not acceptable, what turned it into an ultimatum is "I worry about the sustainability of our relationship." I.e., I'm going to break up with you if you don't play less video games than you are now. Just because you would like to stay in the relationship and keep playing video games at the same rate does not make it abusive. What would make it abusive is if there's a pattern of manipulation that puts the ultimatum in a negative context.

It's part of executive dysfunction. It's when the signal that takes you from "I want to do the thing" to "I'm actively doing the thing" never fires off. It happens in adhd and depression mostly, but not exclusively.
