Rules:

  1. The mods are fallible; if you've been banned or had a post/comment removed, please appeal.
  2. Off-topic posts will be removed. If you don't know what "Leopards ate my Face" is, try reading this post.
  3. If the reason your post meets Rule 1 isn't in the source, you must add a source in the post body (not the comments) to explain this. If the reason is in the source but is tedious to find (e.g. in a lengthy video), you must add an explanation for where it is.
  4. Posts should use high-quality sources (for a rough idea, check out this list), and posts should retain the title (if one exists) from works like news articles, videos, etc. You may (but need not) edit your post if the source changes the title. (If you're only using an excerpt from an article that's otherwise not about LAMF, you can use the quote in the title.) Other types of posts should have a title which accurately, relatively neutrally describes their contents.
  5. For accessibility reasons, an image of text must either have alt text or a transcription in the post body.
  6. Reposts within 1 year or the Top 100 of all time are subject to removal. Within moderator discretion, this doesn't just include reposts of the exact same media but also includes e.g. a secondary source telling basically the exact same story as another that was already posted.
  7. This is not exclusively a US politics community. You're encouraged to post stories about anyone from any place in the world at any point in history as long as you meet the other rules.
  8. All Lemmy.World Terms of Service apply.

I think we're missing an opportunity to flip a lot of people blue with the "I told you so" vs "welcome to the real right side my friend"

Except we were seeing the exact same sentiments from trump voters in 2018.

Trump voters are literally the scorpion in that stupid parabale where everyone drowns.

[–] Zephyr@sh.itjust.works 0 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Some most definitely. Not all, reality is unfortunately not that simplistic.

I have yet to meet one that wasn't. Any demographic large enough will have outliers, but bulk of trump voters are bigoted assholes who want nothing but to harm other people for being different.

I've ment plenty of normal people who were essentially uninformed.

They voted Republican because they were shamed and insulted by the right. They desire to be put in their place by strong individuals. This is the key yall are missing. We need to prove strength to them not accept them.

[–] Zephyr@sh.itjust.works 1 points 1 day ago

I'm not saying this isn't a group of people but it's definitely not everyone who voted right.

Absolutely. I see this mentality "they never care until it happens to them" a lot, and I get it and was guilty of it myself, but an effective political movement needs to be able to welcome people regardless of background.

We need justice to heal. If we don’t get justice for these last ten years the good parts of this country will never trust it again. Would you rather republicans feel less offended or would you rather those that actually make up the bulk of this countries economy feel as if their time on this planet is useful? I’m tired of my side throwing me out like fucking trash because an ugly ogre of a right winger is crying because vaccines are expected of them and they don't wanna. I’m tired of them destroying everything good that we do because they believe bullshit.

Quit punishing good people because some fucking dumb fucks are crying.

In these threads we're not really speaking to those people who have e seen the light though. We are collectively mourning what has been lost, and "we told you so" is a somewhat satisfying outlet.

It's illusory to think that people who voted Trump until it affected them would ever be part of a progressive movement, for many reasons.

More like realist. A political party of five people is less powerful than a political party of fifty million people. Numbers win.

[–] the_q@piefed.social 3 points 1 day ago

Right that's why we have the electoral college... But wait! That proves that the bigger number isn't the more powerful party! Silly me.
