When I was a kid I was low-key obsessed with Friendly's, but I refused to say "Fribble"
When I was a kid we had to stop eating at Friendly's cause our server was gay, I mean it's not like he told us this but my mom had an inkling. I want a cone head :(
That's the worst reason 💀. My mom would do the exact same thing
Is your mom still a piece of shit to this day, or have her beliefs changed with the times?
Either way I’m sorry you had to grow up around bigotry like that
Mostly better
For those of us not familiar with the region you’re from: what’s Friendly’s and what’s a “Fribble”?
It's a thick milkshake, Friendly's is a chain of sit down restaurants, they serve food but most people know them for their ice cream.
Bolwing?
What connotations does that word have? Asking as a non-native speaker.
In my family, "dribble" was an oft-used cutesy synonym for "drool". It reminds me of babies with food and saliva oozing down their chin. That wasn't explicitly my resistance to saying "Fribble" though; it just felt awkard and childish. We didn't have "cringey" as an adjective then - but in retrospect, cringey is how it felt.
My first job was at friendlys, and in case you still miss them sometimes, a fribble is just a regular milkshake made with soft serve (so just soft serve, syrup, and milk).
