While the horrible genocidal actions of Israel certainly put gasoline on the fire, antisemitism has been common among muslims even before modern Israel or even the Zionist ideology was founded. It's right there in the Quran. Among many Quran quotes here is one:
Quran 5:82 "Thou wilt find the most vehement of mankind in hostility to those who believe (to be) the Jews and the idolaters."
There is a reason almost the entirety of the native Jews of pretty much every middle eastern country fled to Israel. Being a Jew in the middle east was a constant hardship.
But that's even beside the points. It's always wrong to hate a group as a whole. If someone says they hate muslims because some muslims are terrorists. That's just as wrong as hating Jews because some Jews support Israels genocidal actions.
Quran is not a series of independent commandments. All of it has context. 5:82 was about jews who allied with the polytheists against muslims, they signed a contract and then broke it.
No islamic scholar worth their salt says jews are evil or hostile in and of themselves, rather it is always in context of their actions.
Same surah in ayat 48 says jews and christians were given different scriptures and muslims should compete with them in good deeds.
2:62 says there are righteous believers among jews and christians and they will have their rewards.
60:8 says Muslims must act kindly and justly towards those who do not fight them because of their faith (including jews christians)
The same ayat that you referenced 5:82 praises christians because before this ayat was revealed, a group of christian came, read quran and accepted islam.
I'm not saying that there aren't any negative writing about the jews in the Quran. But this passage is saying that believers of the truth(Islam) are hated most by the Jews and the pagans.
Jews and Muslims had cohabitated the region in relative peace since the 7th century under the dhimmi system . Up until 1948 nearly a million Jews lived integrated lives across the Arab world in peace. Arab nationalism didn't really exist as a cohesive construct until the establishment of the Israeli state.
Right, but the Israeli state is the main actor conflating the state with the people.
Is the reason because Israel funded and promoted antisemitism so they could play the card of being the only safe place for Jewish people?
