A "Showerthought" is a simple term used to describe the thoughts that pop into your head while you're doing everyday things like taking a shower, driving, or just daydreaming. The most popular seem to be lighthearted clever little truths, hidden in daily life.
Here are some examples to inspire your own showerthoughts:
- Both “200” and “160” are 2 minutes in microwave math
- When you’re a kid, you don’t realize you’re also watching your mom and dad grow up.
- More dreams have been destroyed by alarm clocks than anything else
Rules
- All posts must be showerthoughts
- The entire showerthought must be in the title
- No politics
- If your topic is in a grey area, please phrase it to emphasize the fascinating aspects, not the dramatic aspects. You can do this by avoiding overly politicized terms such as "capitalism" and "communism". If you must make comparisons, you can say something is different without saying something is better/worse.
- A good place for politics is c/politicaldiscussion
- Posts must be original/unique
- Adhere to Lemmy's Code of Conduct and the TOS
If you made it this far, showerthoughts is accepting new mods. This community is generally tame so its not a lot of work, but having a few more mods would help reports get addressed a little sooner.
Whats it like to be a mod? Reports just show up as messages in your Lemmy inbox, and if a different mod has already addressed the report, the message goes away and you never worry about it.

What you gotta ask yourself though: If it is really, that everything just sucks so bad, then why isn't everybody depressed.
I mean, I don't even disagree. Everything indeed does suck so bad. But there's a surprising number of people, that seem to cope with that fact way better than I do.
Turns out, I actually do have depression. If you suspect, that you do too: seek help. It won't change that everything sucks so bad. But I already learned to cope a little better, and I hope you can, too.
There is a surprising number of people too dumb to see just how profoundly everything sucks and hence is going to suck even more
Then there is a number of people who have the capability to see but actively prevent themselves from it lest it breaks them
Two things can be true. And your depression can be because everything actually sucks. Instead of being because you simply believe it sucks.
Like I said, I don't disagree with things sucking in general.
Perception is very important, though.
It would be possible to be perfectly depressed, even if things did not, in fact, suck.
But of course, it's a lot easier to be depressed and to believe, that everything sucks, if that is actually reflected in reality.
A big part of combatting depression, is to focus your perception on things, that don't suck and changing the ones that can be changed, to suck less; instead of making yourself sick by fussing about the things you cannot change anyway.
I struggle with that every day.
Seeking help for depression is what lead me to a therapist. She helped me make the changes in my life circumstances that I needed to make my life suck significantly less. I am no longer chronically depressed.
Do you mind sharing, what kind of changes those were and how they were important for you to feel better?
I was letting some people take advantage of my strong work ethic and was therefore overextending myself. I needed encouragement to escape a bad living situation and move out to another city nearby. I was confused with about my sexual orientation following a series of advances from a gay person that didn't seem entirely unwanted at the time. I also needed encouragement to speak to my doctor about some embarrassing health issues which turned out to be easily treatable.
I'm still being actively treated for anxiety and a panic disorder ancillary to PTSD following my volunteer work in the aftermath of hurricane Helene.
That really sounds like you worked out some important things. I can totally understand how those issues can wear you down, especially if you can't bring yourself to resolve them. Glad you found someone who could help you deal with them. And I hope you can make progress on the rest of your issues as well.
Honestly, you sound like a good person, who deserves to be happier, just from that glimpse, I've read. All the best!
Thanks for the kind words! I hope this encourages you or someone else to pursue a better life! Have a wonderful day
It's because they're stupid and self centered.
That explanation falls a bit short. While it surely explains a lot of people, it doesn't apply to everybody. There are definitely also people (some of whom I know personally) who are neither stupid & self-centered nor depressed.
Then they aren't paying attention which makes them either stupid or self-centered.
I guess there's no point arguing against a closed worldview.
