Just a community for everyone to share artifacts, reconstructions, or replicas for the historically-inclined to admire!
Generally, an artifact should be 100+ years old, but this is a flexible requirement if you find something rare and suitably linked to an era of history, not a strict rule. Anything over 100 is fair game regardless of rarity.

Love me some Tasting History.
I stopped watching when he accepted an invitation to the world cup.
He should know better.

I need to see if he did an episode on the nutritional value of medieval bread. The health benefits compared to white bread sound pretty amazing...
Well, white bread is pretty much just sugar and processed wheat (which is basically also sugar), so the bar is pretty low.
US white bread.
It's definitely the worst, but a lot of white bread elsewhere too will be like that. Perhaps with less processing and preservatives, perhaps with less added sugar. But it's still mostly just sugar and carbs fast enough that they may as well be sugar.
Love it in my mouth though, bless me.
You got that right. Similar with white rice & pasta.
But maybe if there's a diabetes heaven... XD
FWIW, pasta is generally shite in the US, though I was blown away by the fresh pasta in Italy βhell, even the basic, commercial kind. Super cheap, too. π€€
Oh, for ding-donged, bloody-well sure!
My cousin's family moved to Italy many years ago. I only visited them once or twice over the years, but the food (not just pasta, pizza, bread, but everything else) was just mind-blowing. Except for the calamari, partly because I love molluscs & sea-creatures like that, my little friends. But, long story.
One time my cuz was visiting, and she offered to cook, and evidently the 'rents (parents) decided on "pasta," a major conceptual break in their minds, but oh well, lol. Anyway, it was fascinating... she made this little hill of wheat flour before our eyes, mixed it with some water, let it gel a couple moments, the sliced it up and hung the 'noodles' up to dry on a little drying-rack, or whatever it was. Then boiled them a bit, and Robert was your avuncular figure!
(I had no bloody idea it could go that swiftly!)
Love it!
Did we just find SquareOneChess's Lemmy account? Very reminiscent of him, hah.
Yeah, same! (mostly) I've only visited a few places in Italy during my travels over the years, (Rome, Firenze, Bologna, Bari) and each were just as revelatory as the others. Also, my deep and abiding love for cephalopodes put me off a number of menu items (π’), so I feel ya there.
It's eye-opening how insanely better food can be without corn syrup, etc. π«ͺ

No hover on mobile, AFAIK. π
