Also, a very convenient map of the best and worst US states.
Even in the best state 13% said no. More than 1 in 10. The fucking whole country is filled with disgusting human beings. I wonder what they'd say to the obvious follow up question of "Okay, what do you think should be done with homosexual people?"
It's most countries. https://www.equaldex.com/equality-index
Idk, Texas is pretty bad
Idk, New Jersey or Delaware or whatever tiny "states" are in that northeast cluster are going to have to do a lot more than be cool with gay stuff for me to ever visit lol. WA and CA are gay as hell, despite the slightly lower score I feel like either one would be a way better place to bring your boyfriend
Where exactly is you're impression of NJ coming from? NJ is dense, but diverse and pocketed, but even the conservative pockets wont say anything to your face.
Delaware is just office space, suburbs, and tax evasion so I don't know why anyone would go anyway.
Just osmosis I guess, never been near either one. I'm kinda bored with the regional rivalry thing, if you're interested I replied elsewhere in this same thread
New Jersey gets a lot of undeserved hate because it's part of NYC popular culture to shit on them. And as a result, that bleeds in to national popular media.
New Jersey is nicer, the people are friendlier, the streets aren't lined with fucking filth and the buildings aren't falling apart the way they are in NYC. It's a bit cheaper to boot.
By far, my time in Newark was more pleasant than my time in NYC. At this point I wouldn't go back to NYC unless something pretty compelling made it worth dealing with the bullshit New York puts you through.
It's weird to me when people shit on NJ despite never going there. It's the same energy as when people repeat stupid jokes from reddit to feel like they're part of the group. Makes my skin crawl a little.
Also weird, but understandable I guess, is when people's only experience with NJ is like the airport, or the Secaucus train station, and they assume the whole state is like that. Like thinking all of Nevada is Vegas' strip. It's not representative.
NJ is fine. I mean, I detest the suburbs so large chunks of it are not for me.
NYC does have a lot of stuff happening. Pretty much any band on tour will play NYC, for one thing.
They'll also play in Chicago, which is a far better experience all around.
Maybe! I've been a few times and it was fine, but you don't really get a sense of a place staying a weekend.
I think Chicago you can get by without owning a car? That's one of my top priorities
You can!*
Public transit in Chicago is some of the better public transit I've used. I've stayed for weeks on end without ever needing a car. Though taxis/Uber sometimes does a little of the heavy lifting there.
*Very much dependent on where in Chicago you live/stay and where you want to go. Downtown is fantastic, Southside and most of the suburbs are meh. You might need a car out there.
Counterpoint: the people I deal with in person from Jersey are on average way more annoying than the surrounding states.
From this distance they almost blur into the same place. NYC would be ground zero for like, rats and pizza and graffiti and everything being really expensive and NJ kinda sounds like more of the same but less intense and with the Sopranos and beach boardwalks. Can you tell I've never been anywhere near either one? :p
My cousins live in Delaware and it is kinda nice. They have some nice home owner incentives that I get really jealous of. When I got my house in NY they were like, “you can get some new windows installed for free” and I’m like ???. They also got their basement finished for less than 20k (with a new bathroom). Renovating my bathroom alone was like 12k. That being said, I didn’t explore Delaware itself much, so idk what is around there.
I am happy for your cousins and didn't really mean to dunk on Delaware! It's a wide world and there are a lot of ways to live in it. My only perceptions are that it's expensive, densely populated, kinda boring, and a popular place to register corporations for tax reasons. Without getting too specific I'll say I'm in the "western states" and 20k is worth more than most houses anyone'll let me into. More a "mobile home behind on lot rent" kind of guy. Lot of great hiking, camping, hunting, etc though. Possibly a dumb question but can you collect firewood where you're at?
You can dunk on Delaware haha, I was just giving the minor impression that I have of that state. I’m just mostly jealous of their incentives, I would not know how it actually is living there.
I live in upstate NY, got plenty of firewood here from what I know.
You should visit! Went to Rhode Island, had a blast!
Just be careful not to walk for more than a few minutes in one direction or you'll end up in another state.
I'm glad :) wouldn't say no if the opportunity presented itself, but think I'm more a national parks than quaint b&b type. Also it's really far!
