The colors being backwards compared to the other image threw me for a sec.

Now overlay the map of states where the most gay porn is consumed. All the anti gay states will be the top consumers.

[-] hansolo@lemmy.today 12 points 1 day ago

Oh! Oh! Now corelate the data against average household income!

[-] SippyCup@lemmy.world 19 points 1 day ago

A map for you sir/madam/all else

[-] hansolo@lemmy.today 11 points 1 day ago

Well gawrsh, looks like it pays to be cool with the gays!

[-] moonshadow@sh.itjust.works 5 points 1 day ago

Or that comfort makes you tolerant. This would explain Florida's position of being relatively gay for how poor it is: mostly beach, pretty chill. Less need for a scapegoat I guess ;)

[-] hansolo@lemmy.today 3 points 1 day ago

Well, there's also a lot of pockets of low low income earners that throw off the average in a few states. Nevada has a ton of people that live in the middle of the desert on nothing but meth and fentanyl, but Vegas and Reno are obviously super tolerant. Florida would be the similar, I imagine.

But yeah, so comfort might be a real factor here.

[-] SqueakySpider@lemmy.dbzer0.com 6 points 1 day ago

I used slightly more recent median household income for a correlation of 71%

[-] AdolfSchmitler@lemmy.world 10 points 1 day ago

What?! Wisconsin, the "Alabama of the north", has the same acceptance rate as Cali? I did not expect that.

[-] GiantChickDicks@lemmy.ml 3 points 1 day ago

First, the term is "Wississippi". Second, I totally agree. I was shocked to see how well we did.

I think, like usual, Madison and Milwaukee carry the load here.

[-] Duamerthrax@lemmy.world 9 points 1 day ago

I thought Cali would be higher given their reputation, but I'm also not that surprised.

[-] DarkFuture@lemmy.world 8 points 1 day ago

There's a lot of latinos in CA and they're pretty religious.

Source: Some of my best friends are latino and aren't religious but their families are super religious. Which makes things real difficult for my gay latino friend.

[-] samus12345@sh.itjust.works 8 points 1 day ago

There are a LOT of rednecks here out in the boonies. In the big cities the rate is higher, as with most places.

[-] whalesnrainbows@lemmy.world 5 points 1 day ago

I’m visibly queer & live in the SF Bay Area, and while I feel relatively safe, I’ve also encountered far more homophobia/lesbophobia/transphobia than I would have expected

[-] SippyCup@lemmy.world 7 points 1 day ago

Don't care who they be fuckin, can they pound a beer and can they defend the honor of Cheesus is all that matters man

[-] BigBananaDealer@lemmy.world 3 points 1 day ago

amen brother cheers from iraq

[-] Horsey@lemmy.world 4 points 1 day ago

I always said that’d be Indiana lol.

[-] krowbear@lemmy.world 1 points 1 day ago

I would've thought Oregon or California would be the highest

[-] deeprlyeh@lemmus.org 70 points 2 days ago

This should be overlapped with Pornhub’s viewing data per state for a good laugh.

Those are some pretty low numbers

[-] nothingcorporate@lemmy.today 5 points 1 day ago

Seriously! I thought this was an old jpg getting recycled until I zoomed in on the bottom 😬

Zooming in on the bottom is also how to be gay 🌈

[-] olafurp@lemmy.world 2 points 1 day ago

You either zoom in on the bottom or become it

[-] OwOarchist@pawb.social 22 points 2 days ago

Also, a very convenient map of the best and worst US states.

[-] lightnsfw@reddthat.com 8 points 1 day ago

Even in the best state 13% said no. More than 1 in 10. The fucking whole country is filled with disgusting human beings. I wonder what they'd say to the obvious follow up question of "Okay, what do you think should be done with homosexual people?"

The penis is at 65, low but high in context.

[-] RBWells@lemmy.world 4 points 1 day ago

I am from here and Florida, at least in the cities, is queer as fuck. I hung out in gay bars as a teenager, because they were safe spaces for all sorts. We used to have a very big gay film festival in St Pete, our mayor in Tampa is a lesbian. I have no idea who that 45% is.

[-] athairmor@lemmy.world 52 points 2 days ago

Interesting but not beautiful. No labels for the state names, even Americans don’t know the geography that well. The smaller states need numbers with lines. Maryland and D.C. overlap and Delaware has no number.

You should take it up with the original poster not the repost bot.

Ohhh nooo, someone's helping to populate the fediverse with more content so that it's not exclusively found on reddit! The humanity!

For the most liberal state in the Union, "Commiefornia" has an awful lot of conservatives and bigots

My university campus alone has had two hate crimes in the last year, one against a Muslim student and one against a gay student

[-] lechekaflan@lemmy.world 2 points 1 day ago

Some of the big cities have mostly the progressives, but once out into the countryside or further away and into certain suburbs there are angry red areas.

[-] GraniteM@lemmy.world 6 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago)

California is so goddamn huge that it can't help but represent a wider range of demographics. I'd be interested to know how it compares against the overall national rate of acceptance.

Edit: If you average all of the numbers on the map together, the national average is 67%. Whether or not that's a responsible way to work with this data... ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

[-] DarkFuture@lemmy.world 4 points 1 day ago

Californian here. My LGBTQ+ friends have all sorts of bigot stories. Bigots are like worms/maggots. You can find them anywhere.

I'm ashamed that WA isn't higher. I don't know why we put up with the half of the state east of the mountains, they're just our cross to bear.
