FFS $60/wk is a little expensive for just breakfast and some lunch ingredients for one person.....assuming you are trying to be frugal.

Our total spend for all meals is around $250/wk for 5 of us, admittedly we make almost all of our meals, very little processed food in our diet.

Are you cooking together and buying in bulk? That really decreases the cost per person

Because it's callous, he is either a complete cunt or completely out of touch. Either way not a great situation, it would have been very easy to say nothing....

Because he is drastically understating the struggles that many Kiwis have. His weekly food spend is far greater than $60 per week.
