What does an ordinary person do to combat this?
You can't debate in good faith: they're not operating in good faith.
You can't reason them out of a position they've not reasoned themselves into.
I can teach my own children critical thinking, but that's only a couple of people, there's a very large number of people out there who soak this stuff up uncritically.
What can we do?
The only thing an ordinary person can do is to speak up when they see it. Why is this being reported on a blog instead of the mainstream media? It's because not enough of us spoke out about it and spread the word that it's happening.
